A system for testing the existing protection schemes of a power converter. The system simulates the voltage regulator producing a voltage level below an under-voltage threshold. The system simulates the voltage regulator producing a voltage level above an over-voltage threshold. The system simulates a short in the power converter pulling down the input bus. The system simulates a short in the power converter pulling down the output bus. The system measures the system responses to these simulations against responses of a properly operating system and determines if the power converter's protection schemes are operating correctly.

Testing protection schemes of a power converter

A method of preventing an energy storage device failure in a power supply, includes a package deformation, indicating a gas buildup and a forthcoming failure in a package wall of the energy storage device is detected. A voltage caused by the displacement of the package wall of the energy storage device is detected. It is determined whether the detected voltage is greater than or equal to a voltage threshold to indicate a slight package deformation. A warning is issued if the detected voltage is greater than or equal to the voltage threshold for the slight package deformation. It is determined whether the detected voltage is greater than or equal to a voltage threshold, to indicate a package deformation severe enough that a package breach is imminent. The power supply is shut down if the detected voltage is determined to be greater than or equal to the package breach voltage threshold.

Sensor incorporated into energy storage device package

Exemplary embodiments include An active impedance current-sharing circuit including: a power supply in electrical communication with a current sense resistor; a differential amplifier in electrical communication with the current sense resistor; a gate adjust amplifier in electrical communication with the differential amplifier; an ORing MOSFET in electrical communication with the gate adjust amplifier and the current sense resistor; a current share resistor in electrical communication with a current share bus and the gate adjust amplifier; and a current share output in electrical communication with the ORing MOSFET, wherein the circuit allows two or more power supplies that are not designed for current share to be connected in parallel and current share by actively modulating the ORing MOSFET between its linear and fully enhanced regions.
