A crop residue monitoring system may include a harvester, a camera to capture an image of crop residue generated by the harvester, an analytical unit to derive a value for a crop residue parameter of the crop residue based upon an optical analysis of the image and a control unit to adjust a subsequent field operation based upon the value of the crop residue parameter.

A harvesting header for traversing a field to perform a harvesting operation includes a first frame assembly adapted to be coupled to a work machine and a second frame assembly suspended forward of the first frame assembly. The second frame assembly may pivot relative to the first frame assembly. A suspension system is coupled to the second frame assembly and provides a suspension force to the second frame assembly. A controller is operably coupled to the suspension system, and a slope detection system is disposed in electrical communication with the controller for communicating a slope of the field to the controller during the harvesting operation. The controller operably controls the suspension system by adjusting the suspension force based on the slope of the field.

A biomass estimating system for an agricultural harvester includes a sensor arrangement disposed to sense standing crop adjacent to the agricultural harvester and disposed to sense a portion of ground adjacent to the agricultural harvester that has been previously harvested. An ECU receives signals indicating the standing crop and signals indicating the portion of the ground and calculates an estimated biomass of the standing crop based at least upon the signals indicating the standing crop and the signals indicating the portion of ground.

An overall machine operational state (such as a problem state, field state, machine state, other non-problem state, etc.) is identified, and exit and entry conditions are monitored to determine whether the machine transitions into another operational state. When the machine transitions into a problem state, a multiple input, multiple output control system uses a state machine to identify the problem state and a solution is identified. The solution is indicative of machine settings that will return the machine to an acceptable, operational state. Control signals are generated to modify the machine settings based on the identified solution.

A control system and method is provided for raising and lowering a vehicle antenna. The control system includes a location receiver for generating vehicle location data, an obstacle detection unit which generates an obstacle signal, an antenna, an antenna motor for raising and lowering the antenna and a control unit. The control unit controls the antenna motor as a function of the vehicle location data and the obstacle signal. The control unit compares the vehicle location signal to stored or received geofencing information defining a geofenced area, and causes the antenna motor to raise the antenna when the vehicle location corresponding to the vehicle location data is inside the geofenced area and no obstacle is detected. The control unit causes the antenna motor to lower the antenna when the vehicle location corresponding to the vehicle location data is outside the geofenced area or if an obstacle is detected.
