A waveguide system may include an inner core, and a conductor wound around the inner core in conductive coils having a coil length, wherein a voltage pulse received by the pulsed waveguide propagates as an induced wave having a group velocity, the group velocity being below a threshold velocity, wherein a reflection signal or an end of line signal generated within the conductor from the induced wave is detectable from the initial voltage pulse.

Pulsed wave guide liquid quality measurement

Switch assemblies and a switching method are disclosed. In some embodiments, a switch assembly may include a first contact element, and a second contact element operable with the first contact element. The first and second contact elements form an open circuit in a first configuration and form a closed circuit in a second configuration. At least one of the first contact element and the second contact element includes a magnetostrictive material. During operation, a magnetic field from a magnet causes the magnetostrictive material to deform or change shape/dimensions, thus causing the first and second contact elements to open or close. In some embodiments, the switch assembly is a micro-electro-mechanical-system (MEMS) switch.

Zero sequence current sensors for single-phase and multiphase power systems are disclosed. In one implementation, a zero sequence current sensor is positioned between conductors associated with a single-phase power system or a multiphase power system. The current sensor may be shaped to accommodate maintaining a substantially equal distance between the conductors associated with the single-phase power system or the multiphase power system.

The waveguide may also include an electrically conductive coil wrapped around the inner cylinder, wherein the pulsed waveguide is arranged to generate a first delay between a first initial pulse and a first reflected pulse when an upper surface of the liquid is at a first level, and to generate a second delay between a second initial pulse and a second reflected pulse when the upper surface of the liquid is a second level.

Floatless pulsed wave guide liquid level measurement

A thick film polymer membrane switch can be positioned within a seat belt buckle. The switch can detect if the seat belt buckle is fastened or unfastened. In one approach, an apparatus includes a housing having a cavity, an insertion member moveable within the cavity, a connector positioned within the cavity, and a switch positioned within the cavity, wherein movement of the insertion member causes the connector to connect or disconnect from the switch. In some approaches, the switch includes a first conductive element formed adjacent a first layer of flexible film, and a second conductive element formed adjacent a second layer of flexible film, wherein the first and second layers of flexible film are separated by a gap.

Seat belt buckle

A position sensing system including a waveguide positioned adjacent to a quantity of soft or semi-soft magnetic material is described. A magnet, movable relative to the waveguide and magnetic material, closely positioned to the magnetic material and configured to generate a local magnetic field sufficient to locally saturate the magnetic material. The saturated magnetic material operates to change the characteristic impedance of the waveguide at the point of saturation, which causes signals to be reflected at the point of impedance discontinuity. A signal generator for communicating a first signal to the waveguide and a signal receiver for receiving the first signal and/or the reflected signal and a position sensing processor or circuit for determining the position of the waveguide relative to the magnet based on the first signal and the reflected signal are described.

Extended stroke position sensor

A plate type tension sensor having apertures, a spring structure, and a gap are provided. The spring structure allows the apertures to move relative to each other as tension is applied to a seat belt to which the plate is attached. The movement changes the width of the gap. The tension applied to a vehicle restraint system may be determined based on the gap width.

Seatbelt tension sensor plate

A position sensing system including a waveguide, a magnet movable relative to the waveguide, and a compensator configured to compensate for a change in propagation velocity of the waveguide in determining a position of the magnet relative to the waveguide. The compensator coupled to the waveguide and configured to receive a pulse, an end of line pulse corresponding to the pulse transmitted through the waveguide, and a reflected pulse corresponding to a reflection of the pulse at a point in the waveguide. The compensator configured to determine the point based at least in part on the pulse, the end of line pulse, and/or the reflected pulse.

A fuel level sensor having a magnetic position sensor connected to an arm for attachment to a float, wherein the magnetic position sensor comprises a stator and a movable part, the stator having two soft magnetic pieces defining an air gab, which contains a magnetoresistive probe for measuring the variation in induction in the gap, the moveable part comprising a yoke of soft magnetic materiel displaceable parallel to the magnetic pieces of the stator, and a magnet partly embedded in a cavity in the yoke facing the stator, the poles of the magnet being polarized perpendicularly to direction of movement of the moveable part relative to the stator.

Fuel level sensor using rotating angel sensor attached to float on totating arm

A torque sensor comprising a shaft of magnetostrictive material; a pair of magnets having oppositely sensed poles positioned circumferentially around the shaft so as to induce a localized magnetic field in the shaft between the poles. A torque applied to the shaft is sensed by a flux detector positioned circumferentially between the magnet poles so as to detect a component of the localized magnetic field which escapes from the shaft as a result of the torque. With this design, there is no need to permanently magnetize the shaft or a collar attached to the shaft, as in the prior art. The prior art manufacturing step of permanently magnetizing the collar or its shaft is also thus eliminated, greatly simplifying the manufacturing.
