The disclosed embodiments include an electrical disconnect system and method for a vehicle having a high voltage electrical system. In one embodiment, the system includes a service disconnect base being electrically coupled to the electrical system. A service disconnect plug is attachable to the service disconnect base and has a resistive device integrally formed therein. Current within the electrical system flows through the service disconnect base and the service disconnect plug when the service disconnect plug is connected to the service disconnect base. The current is limited to a current level no greater than a predetermined current level.

A device and method for dynamically optimizing a power converter is disclosed. The dynamically optimized power converter unit includes a processor that maximizes efficiency of a power converter supplying energy to a load.

A power system for increasing a load start-up capability of a DC/AC converter includes a DC/AC converter, a processor coupled to the DC/AC converter and a memory subsystem coupled to the processor. The memory subsystem stores code that when executed by the processor instructs the processor to perform a number of steps. When an actual link voltage of a DC/AC converter falls below a predetermined link voltage level, when a commanded link voltage is set for a nominal link voltage level, the commanded link voltage is increased to link voltage level that is greater than the nominal link voltage level. The DC/AC converter is then restarted.

Method and system for increasing load start-up capability of a DC-to-AC converter

A power system that increases the power capability of a DC/AC converter includes a processor coupled to the DC/AC converter and a memory subsystem coupled to the processor. The memory subsystem stores code that when executed by the processor instructs the processor to perform a number of steps. The processor determines when an electrical load that is coupled to the DC/AC converter causes a link voltage of the DC/AC converter to fall below a first predetermined link voltage level. The processor then controls a DC/AC output inverter of the DC/AC converter to cause the DC/AC converter to provide a non-sinusoidal output waveform. The processor also controls the DC/AC output inverter to cause the DC/AC converter to provide a sinusoidal output waveform, when the link voltage exceeds the first predetermined link voltage level or a second predetermined link voltage level.

Technique for increasing power capability of a DC-to-AC converter

A DC/DC converter employing synchronous rectification includes an energy transfer switch, a diode, a synchronous switch, a processor and a memory subsystem. The processor estimates a diode conduction time and provides a control signal to the synchronous switch to cause the synchronous switch to conduct for a period of time equal to the estimated diode conduction time.

Method, control system and computer-readable medium are respectively provided for determining angular crankshaft position prior to a cranking event of an internal combustion engine. Upon issuance of an engine shutdown command, the method allows determining an initial crankshaft position based on a crankshaft position sensor. The method further allows providing a rulebase for relating angular travel of a rotor in an accessory device to crankshaft angular travel. Angular travel of the rotor in the accessory device is sensed since issuance of the engine shutdown command until the engine reaches a resting position. The rulebase is accessed to relate the value of the angular travel of the rotor in the accessory device to crankshaft angular travel and provide an incremental crankshaft angular travel relative to the initial crankshaft position at engine shutdown. Crankshaft position is calculated at the resting position based upon the initial crankshaft position plus the incremental crankshaft angular travel based on the angular travel of the rotor in the accessory device. The calculated crankshaft position corresponding to the resting position is stored. Upon issuance of an engine re-start command, the stored crankshaft position corresponding to the resting position is retrieved to provide quick and accurate engine control regardless of any dead-band in the crankshaft position sensor during low engine speeds.
