Disclosed are configurations of inner and outer shells for a multi-piece closure assembly. The inner shell includes a base wall, and an outer skirt extending away from the base wall, carrying external thread segments, and including an axially outward portion, and an axially inward portion terminating in a grip petal portion having petals with radially inwardly projecting container engagement lugs and radially outwardly projecting outer shell engagement lugs. The outer shell includes a base wall, an inner skirt extending away from the base wall, and an outer skirt extending away from an outer periphery of the base wall at a location spaced radially outwardly from the inner skirt and including an internally threaded portion carrying internal thread segments and an unthreaded extension extending away from the threaded portion and on an axial side of the internally threaded portion opposite that of the base wall.

Package, container, closure assembly, and closure components

A package includes a container with a crown closure bead and an external thread segment having a diameter greater than that of the crown closure bead, a crown closure coupled to the crown closure bead, and a multi-piece closure assembly coupled to the crown closure and the container. The closure assembly includes an inner shell, a seal liner carried by the inner shell and positioned against the crown closure, and an outer shell. The inner shell has an inner skirt having at least one internal thread segment to cooperate with the external thread segment of the container. The outer shell has an outer skirt with an internal retention bead for cooperating with an external retention bead of the inner shell to retain the shells together in an axial direction, and outer child-resistant engagement features to cooperate with inner child-resistant engagement features of the inner shell.

Child-resistant, pressurizable, and resealable package

An apparatus for sealing a foil liner to a container. The apparatus comprises a seal head that includes a body having a first end, a second end, and an axis extending through the first and second ends. The body further includes a sealing surface at the second end thereof facing away from the first end. The seal head further includes fluid path(s) for passing fluid through and out of the seal head and onto the foil liner. A method for sealing a foil liner to a container is also provided wherein a sealing surface of a seal head is aligned with a sealing surface of the container, wherein a peripheral edge of the foil liner is disposed between the sealing surfaces of the seal head and the container. Fluid is then passed through fluid path(s) in the seal head and out of the seal head and onto the foil liner.

Sealing foil liners to containers

A container includes a neck finish extending from a body and having at least two thickened wall portions circumferentially spaced apart and extending radially inwardly, and including interior surfaces disposed radially inwardly of a neck finish interior surface to at least partially establish an internal trough, and axially facing shoulders axially recessed with respect to a sealing lip of the neck finish.

A method of sealing a foil liner to a hot-filled container includes the steps of aligning a liner engagement surface of a seal head with a liner sealing surface of the container when the container is in a first position, wherein at least a peripheral margin of the foil liner is disposed between the liner engagement and sealing surfaces of the seal head and the container, respectively; applying heat between the seal head and the container to heat and attach the foil liner and the sealing surface of the container, resulting in a sealed package; rotating the sealed package from the first position to a second position; and applying fluid onto at least a portion of the sealed package to cool a head space of the sealed package. The head space is disposed between an inner surface of the container and a product packaged in the sealed package.

A hood for depositing vaporized metals on glass container surfaces includes a vaporized metal source that produces vaporized metal; an enclosure, receiving one or more glass containers, comprising at least one side wall and at least one center section having a top above the glass containers; and one or more conduits that fluidly communicate the vaporized metal to an opening in at least one of the top of the center section and the side wall using one or more conduit fans.

A glass container includes a base, a body extending axially from the base, and a neck finish extending from the body, the neck finish having an axial sealing surface, wherein at least a portion of the axial sealing surface extends both axially downwardly and radially outwardly. Also disclosed is a package including a glass container and a closure assembly.

Container

An apparatus for inspecting the integrity of a seal of a package that includes a container and a seal membrane carried by the container. The apparatus comprises a conveyor configured to move the sealed package along a path and including a vacuum plenum section configured to create a sub-atmospheric pressure that is applied to the seal membrane of the sealed package as the package moves through the vacuum plenum section. The apparatus further comprises an imaging sensor configured to generate one or more images of the seal membrane following the application of a sub-atmospheric pressure thereto at the vacuum plenum section. The apparatus still further comprises an electronic processing device configured to process the one or more images of the seal membrane generated by the imaging sensor, and to evaluate the integrity of the seal of the package based on the one or more images.

Seal integrity inspection

A closure includes an overcap having an annular skirt, and an annular wall extending inwardly from the skirt. A lid is carried by the overcap radially within the annular skirt, and includes a hub, and an annular margin extending radially outwardly with respect to the hub, and having upper and lower surfaces. An annular container seal extends circumferentially continuously around the annular margin. One or more vents may extend through the annular margin between the upper and lower surfaces thereof at one or more discrete circumferential locations radially inward with respect to the container seal. One or more vent seals may be disposed at the one or more vents between the lid and the overcap.

A container neck finish includes an outer surface of the neck finish having a parting line, an axially facing sealing surface, a bead projecting radially outwardly from the outer surface and axially spaced from the sealing surface, and circumferentially spaced retention elements projecting radially outwardly from the outer surface, and being located axially between the sealing surface and the bead. At least one of the retention elements includes a stop portion including a ramp portion that extends circumferentially toward the parting line and radially inwardly toward the neck finish outer surface and converges therewith at a location within ten angular degrees of the parting line.

Neck finish for a container

A seal for a closure assembly that includes a seal ring; and a carrier being coupled to the seal ring, extending circumferentially and radially outwardly of the seal ring to a radially outer periphery, and having a circumferentially extending pocket in the radially outer periphery adapted to release a vacuum pressure.

A method of preparing a sealing surface of a container for application of a seal. A lip of the container may be heated, rinsed, and dried to establish the sealing surface. Then the seal may be applied to the sealing surface.
