The present disclosure presents a shock damping ring for use in a downhole tool that includes a base ring structure a plurality of fingers extending from the base ring structure axially parallel to a central axis of the base ring structure. Each finger of the plurality of fingers is configured to physically abut first and second tubular components of the downhole tool and to reduce shock amplification between the first and second tubular components of the downhole tool. In addition, at least one finger of the plurality of fingers includes a beveled, chamfered, or radiused surface configured to physically abut one tubular component of the first and second tubular components of the downhole tool, and an orthogonal surface configured to physically abut the other tubular component of the first and second tubular components of the downhole tool.

Shock damping ring design for downhole electronic systems

A sealing device for sealing an interface between a first surface and a second surface includes a primary sealing element for forming a primary seal at the interface and a carrier body that is slidable with respect to the interface to engage the primary sealing element. A carrier sealing element is positioned on the carrier body, and is configured to seal the interface with a secondary seal. The carrier body is slidable to engage the primary sealing element based on the secondary seal sealing the interface.

Sealing device

A technique facilitates temporary locking of a mechanical packer to prevent inadvertent actuation of the mechanical packer. The mechanical packer may be set via manipulation of a setting mandrel which works in cooperation with a releasable locking mechanism. The releasable locking mechanism may be initially locked against the setting mandrel and held in place via a piston, e.g. an annular piston, received in a piston chamber, e.g. an annular chamber surrounding the setting mandrel. The piston may be selectively shifted via pressure applied in the piston chamber so as to release the releasable locking mechanism, thus enabling actuation of the mechanical packer.

Embodiments may generally take the form of a safety joint and methods related thereto. One embodiment may take the form of a safety joint deployable in a well. The safety joint includes a first sub and a second sub coupled to the first sub. The coupling of the two subs may include a first set of threads having a first orientation and a second set of threads having a second orientation different from the first set of threads. The first sub is decoupleable from the second sub upon disengagement of the first set of threads by rotation in a first direction followed by disengagement of the second set of threads by rotation in a direction opposite from the first direction.
