A welding wire feeder includes a welding wire feed drive configured to drive welding wire towards a welding application and wire feed control circuitry coupled to the welding wire feed drive. The wire feed control circuitry is also configured to control the drive of welding wire towards the welding application. The welding wire feeder also includes power conversion circuitry and welding process control circuitry coupled to the power conversion circuitry. The power conversion circuitry is configured to receive input power from a welding power source and to convert the input power to controlled waveform welding output. The welding process control circuitry is configured to provide control signals for conversion of the input power to the controlled waveform welding output. The welding wire feeder also includes a process operator interface coupled to the welding process control circuitry and configured to permit operator selection of a controlled waveform welding process.

Controlled waveform welding wire feeder system and method

Systems and methods relating to a boosting rectifier and feeder motor drive circuit are provided. The circuit may be used to produce a regulated DC supply voltage from a variable input AC line voltage, chop the DC supply voltage and deliver a pulse width modulated motor voltage to a wire feed motor in the wire drive assembly. One embodiment relates to elimination of undesirable wire feeder inconsistencies due to motor loading conditions, distance between the primary power source and the wire feeder, and so forth. In certain embodiments, the circuit may contain power factor correction circuitry, which may reduce the size of circuit components due to increased efficiency. Current paths through the circuit during the positive and negative half cycles of the AC input voltage are provided. Exemplary controller logic that may be used to control the operation of the boosting rectifier and feeder motor drive circuit is provided.

A system and method, in certain embodiments, sets an output polarity based on a selected process. The system and method may be used to operate a variety of equipment, such as welders, cutters, tools and so forth. In some embodiments, the system and method may include receiving an input signal and configuring circuitry to output power with a given polarity based on the input signal.

A system and method for inductively heating a work piece. The induction heating system is coupleable to at least one temperature feedback device. The temperature feedback device is disposed within the induction heating system to provide a signal representative of the temperature of an induction heating system component. The induction heating system is operable to control the output of the induction heating system based on the temperature of the induction heating system component to protect the component from heat damage.
