An apparatus includes a disposable assembly and a reusable assembly. The disposable assembly includes a fluid input port, a fluid output port, and a tube configured to provide fluid communication between the fluid input port and the fluid output port. The reusable assembly includes a housing, a fluid management assembly that is configured to transition between an open position and a closed position, and a sensing assembly. The fluid management assembly is configured to prevent fluid from traveling past the tube to the fluid output port in the closed position. The sensing assembly is configured to sense fluid accumulating within the tube while the fluid management assembly is in the closed position. The sensing assembly is also configured to drive the fluid management assembly from the closed position to the open position when the sensing assembly detects fluid within the tube at a predetermined range.

A compression measurement and feedback system which measures the magnitude and the angle of manual CPR force applied to a patient and provides the measured magnitude and direction information as compression data feedback to the person applying CPR to the patient. Any variation in the magnitude or direction of the compression force applied may be calculated from the compression data measured by the compression sensor. A monitor receives the compression data and processes the compression data to generate feedback data to the CPR provider indicating the magnitude and direction of the applied CPR compression along with ideal CPR compression characteristics for comparison.

The described embodiments relate to systems, methods, and apparatuses for controlling a lighting unit to provide multiple different static and dynamic illumination patterns. The illumination patterns can be provided in response to changes in environmental conditions detected by sensors of the lighting unit. For instance, the lighting unit can provide a flame-like illumination pattern when the sensor is detecting a first threshold amount of motion, and a static illumination pattern when the sensor is detecting a second threshold amount of motion. The flame-like illumination pattern can be expressed using multiple light guides that extend from the lighting unit and receive different colors of light that imitate the motion of a flame. The light guides can be, for example, cylindrical or pipe-shaped, and etched with different patterns to absorb and reflect incident light.
