The present invention resides in one aspect in a system including a user operable portable radio communication device and a server. A keypad includes discrete keys formed by touch sensors or virtual keys on a touch sensitive area. The discrete or virtual keys are mechanically linked to a biased switch. The key that has been touched during a keystroke is identified through a signal from the touch sensors whilst a keystroke is recorded upon a signal from the biased switch. The combination of the touch sensors with a biased switch provides tactile feedback. The use of touch sensors or a touch sensitive area allows the keypad to be constructed with a substantially flush surface without parting lines.

A handheld electronic device has a central part comprising a display and two pivotable elements. The pivotable elements are pivotably linked to the central part such that the pivotable elements are moveable between a compacted configuration and an extended configuration. Both of the pivotable elements are stacked on the central part and adjacent to each other when in the compacted configuration, and extend outward from the central part in the extended configuration. The pivotable elements each have a first surface accessible to a user in the compacted configuration. A first set of keys is disposed on the first surfaces. A second set of keys is disposed on the second surfaces.

A portable telephone assembly comprising first and second portions arranged to be mutually detachably interconnectable is disclosed. The second portion is arranged to be removably attachable to a user. The first portion comprises a body portion and an extendible portion movable between a relatively extended configuration and a relatively contracted configuration. The extendible portion is biased towards the relatively extended configuration, such that when the first portion is detached from the second portion, the extendible portion is urged towards the relatively extended configuration.

An injection mouldable material and a method of making the material wherein the material comprises a mixture of an injection-mouldable polymer and a dielectric substance having a relatively high dielectric constant.
