An engine apparatus is provided that includes an internal combustion engine and a cooling airflow control subsystem The cooling airflow control subsystem includes an airflow regulator having a first component comprising one or more passageways extending through the first component, and a second component comprising one or more passageways extending through the second component, the second component mounted adjacent the first component; and an actuator operably coupled to the airflow regulator to cause relative rotation between the first and second components when actuated so that the airflow regulator can be altered between: (1) a first state in which the first and second passageways are aligned a first extent to allow a first amount of cooling airflow to reach the engine; and (2) a second state in which the first and second passageways are aligned a second extent to allow a second amount of cooling airflow to reach the engine, the first amount being greater than the second amount.

Apparatus for controlling cooling airflow to an internal combustion engine, and engines and methods utilizing the same

An engine apparatus is provided that includes an internal combustion engine and a cooling airflow control subsystem. Apparatus for controlling cooling airflow to an intenral combustion engine, and engines and methods utilizing the same

An internal combustion engine that includes an oil baffle in the oil sump. The internal combustion engine may include a crankcase comprising an oil sump containing an oil reservoir, a crankshaft, and an oil baffle positioned within the oil sump. The crankshaft may be a vertical crankshaft and a first balance shaft may extend upward from the oil baffle. The crankshaft may be positioned within the oil baffle and a drivetrain may, also optionally, be positioned in the oil baffle. The internal combustion engine may be configured such that the oil reservoir has a first oil level when the internal combustion engine is off and a second oil level when the internal combustion engine is running at normal operating conditions. The first oil level is above a floor of the oil baffle. The second oil level may, also, be above the floor of the oil baffle.

A motorcycle including a frame having a forward portion, a rearward portion, and a backbone portion positioned between the forward and rearward portions. A fuel tank includes a top wall, side walls that extend generally downwardly from the top wall, and bottom walls that extend from the side walls generally toward one another. A tunnel wall extends between the bottom walls and defines a concave tunnel portion of the fuel tank, which is configured to receive the backbone portion of the frame. A one-piece mounting bracket is coupled to and extends along the tunnel wall. The mounting bracket includes a forward mounting portion coupled to the forward portion of the frame, and a rearward mounting portion coupled to the rearward portion of the frame to secure the fuel tank to the motorcycle.
