Embodiments of the present invention include a convertible prosthesis that is capable of conversion from a humeral head replacement to a reverse reconstruction without any removal of parts integrated into the patient's bony anatomy (e.g. implant stems). A desired overall implant inclination angle may be achieved by matching various implant stems with various reverse inserts, thus permitting a resection surface to be matched with an implant stem selection while also permitting a desired overall implant inclination angle to be achieved through the selection of an appropriate insert.

The method further includes abducting the humerus so as to move the acromion-bearing portion of the prosthetic head component into direct contact with an acromion of the patient.

A method for providing joint arthroplasty includes providing a gauge for making a measurement of the contour of a long bone, making a measurement of the contour of a long bone with the gauge, providing a plurality of joint prostheses, selecting one of the plurality of joint prostheses based upon the measurement of the contour, resecting a long bone, and implanting the selected one prosthesis onto the long bone. A kit is also provided for selecting one of a plurality of joint implants for use in joint arthroplasty on a bone. The kit includes a first gauge and a second gauge.

An ankle prosthesis includes a tibial component attachable to a tibia. A bearing component is movable in an anterior-to-posterior direction to thereby engage and become releasably attached to the tibial component. The bearing component can be released from the tibial component by movement in a posterior-to-anterior direction to thereby be removed from the tibial component.
