The silylated polyurethane polymer includes a polyurethane prepolymer having between greater than about 50 to about 95% of NCO groups terminated with silane capping agents. The polymer has an improved mechanical properties. The polymer can also have between about 5% to less than about 50% of the NCO groups terminated with low molecular weight terminators.

Silylated polyurethanes for adhesives and sealants with improved mechanical properties

The cure-through rate of one-part silylated polymer adhesive/sealant compositions is improved by the addition of a small but effective amount of an alcohol-free hydrophilic solvent. The composition is particularly suitable for packaging in aluminum or aluminum-lined cartridges.

Fast-cure silylated polymer adhesive

A cured adhesive tape composition for adhering together roofing materials such as synthetic EPDM rubber and which provides long term water tightness is provided. The adhesive composition includes a) a rubbery polymer comprising a blend of (i) from about 12% or less by weight of the total composition of an ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, (ii) a halogenated butyl rubber or a halogenated copolymer of p-methylstyrene and isobutylene, (iii) polyisobutylene, and (iv) a butyl terpolymer, and b) a compatible tackifier, and c) an accelerator/cure package for the rubbery polymer. The cured composition exhibits a peel strength of at least 1000 grams/cm at room temperature, at least 500 grams/cm at 70&deg; C., and supports a static load of at least 300 grams at 70&deg; C.

Adhesive composition for providing water-tight joints in single-ply roofing membranes

A primer for promoting adhesion between an elastomeric adhesive and a nonporous substrate containing a silane-modified saturated polyester polymer and an adhesion promoter in an anhydrous solvent. The invention is also directed to a silane-modified saturated polyester polymer, and an adhesion promoter made by the reaction of a multifunctional isocyanate and an organosilane.

Primer for improving the bonding of adhesives to nonporous substrates

A 100% solids polyurethane adhesive composition for bonding polymeric roofing materials to roof-deck substrates is provided which includes two components. The first component comprises a monomeric or polymeric diisocyanate, or a polyurethane prepolymer formed by the reaction of the monomeric or polymeric diisocyanate with a polyol. The second component comprises a polyol selected from the group consisting of a polyether or polyester polyol, an alkanolamine diol, a hydroxyl-terminated homopolymer of polybutadiene, and mixtures thereof. The first and second components are combined such that the ratio of isocyanate groups in the first component to the ratio of hydroxyl groups in the second component is from about 0.5:1 to 1.5:1.

Polyurethane adhesive composition for bonding polymeric roofing

An adsorbent containing composition for use in an insulating glass unit is provided. The composition includes a depolymerized butyl rubber having a low viscosity average molecular weight which is a carrier for moisture and volatile organic chemical adsorbing materials. The composition is economical to produce and results in a composition which effectively desiccates a sealed insulating glass unit without the problem of chemical fogging.

Adsorbent containing composition for use in insulating glass units

There is provided an adhesive system comprised of a pressure-sensitive adhesive matrix having dispersed. therein organic particulate solids having a particle size no greater than 300 microns, and generally no greater than 225 microns, which matrix may have at least one, and generally two, sides coated with an unfilled pressure-sensitive adhesive material, which adhesive materials generally may be acrylic materials. Such adhesive system is one generally provided as a sheet, including elongated tapes, having a thickness of from about 25 to 60 mils.

Pressure-sensitive adhesive systems with filler

A fortified pressure sensitive adhesive is comprised of a polymerization product of, or a polymeric composition derived from a formulation comprising at least one non-tertiary acrylic acid alkyl ester formed from a primary or secondary alcohol, an organofunctional silane, wherein said organofunctional silane is present in said formulation in an amount sufficient to increase the adhesive characteristics of the pressure sensitive adhesive, and an ethylenically-unsaturated dimer, wherein the ethylenically-unsaturated dimer is present in the formulation in an amount sufficient to increase the adhesive characteristics of the pressure sensitive adhesive.

Fortified pressure sensitive adhesive

A cured adhesive tape composition for adhering together roofing materials such as synthetic EPDM rubber and which provides long term water tightness is provided. The adhesive composition includes substantially equal amounts by weight of a) a rubbery polymer comprising a blend of an ethylene-propylenediene terpolymer, a halogenated butyl rubber or a halogenated copolymer of p-methylstyrene and isobutylene, and polyisobutylene b) a compatible tackifier, and c) an accelerator/cure package for the rubbery polymer. The cured composition exhibits a peel strength of at least 715 grams/cm at room temperature, at least 300 grams/cm at 70.degree. C., and supports a static load of at least 300 grams at 70.degree. C.

Adhesive composition and method for providing water-tight joints in

A solvent-based adhesive composition for adhering together roofing materials, such as synthetic EPDM rubber sheets, which provides long term storage stability is provided. The adhesive composition includes a halogenated copolymer of isobutylene and p-methyl styrene, a thermoplastic rubber comprising a styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene block copolymer, an endblock resin for the thermoplastic rubber, a tackifier, an accelerator/cure package, and a solvent. The cured composition exhibits a peel strength of at least 3.0 pounds per lineal inch at room temperature, at least 3.0 pounds per lineal inch at 212.degree. F., supports a static load of at least 0.67 pounds at 158.degree. F. for a minimum of 24 hours, and exhibits a viscosity increase of less than 1500 centipoise after aging at 130.degree. F. for six weeks.

Solvent-based adhesive composition for roofing membranes

A pressure sensitive adhesive is prepared by the polymerization of an appropriate acrylic ester formulation of the type that includes an ethylenically unsaturated monomer having a polar group, and at least part of such polymerization is accomplished by photopolymerization using a source of ultraviolet radiation that provides a substantial portion of its ultraviolet radiation in the wavelength band of from about 280 to about 350 nm and a light intensity at the surface of the formulation being polymerized of no more than about 4.0 milliwatts/cm.sup.2.

The invention is a caulking gun nozzle attachment for consistently applying sealant at a roofing material overlap. The attachment includes a female end for matingly engaging a caulking gun nozzle; an applicator end in communication therewith; the applicator end having a coat-hanger shaped opening defined by a convex upper surface, and a lower surface which are joined at a first edge in a spaced-apart second edge; and a vertical solid guide intermediate the first and the second edge for tracking the overlap whereby a sealant is applied at the overlap uniformly an equal distance therefrom.
