Generating unique document identifiers from content within a selected page region is disclosed. A selection of a first region within a first page of the documents is received from a user, and is defined by a set of first boundaries relative to the first page. A text string of a first base selection page content within the first region is retrieved from the first page. Then the retrieved text string is assigned to a page location index associated with the first page. A text string of a first replicated selection page content is retrieved from a second page. The first replicated selection page content is included in the same first region defined by the set of first boundaries relative to the second page. The retrieved text string of the first replicated selection page content is assigned to a page location index of the second page.

A method for aligning a modified document and an original document is provided according to an aspect of the present invention. The method includes a step of receiving a first bitmap representative of the modified document, including a first anchor. Additionally, a second bitmap representative of the original document including a second anchor is received. The method also includes the step of deriving a set of first vertex coordinates of the first anchor, and a set of second vertex coordinates of the second anchor. The method further includes the step of transforming the first bitmap to a common reference based upon the first set of vertex coordinates, and the step of transforming the second bitmap to the common reference based upon the second set of vertex coordinates.

A method for emphasizing differences in graphical appearances between an original document and a modified document using annotations with outer and inner boundaries is disclosed. A first bitmap of the modified document and a second bitmap of the original document are received. A set of difference points is derived from a comparison of the first bitmap and the second bitmap. Those difference points are representative of coordinates within the first and second bitmaps having pixel value differences exceeding a predetermined threshold. An outer boundary and an inner boundary of the difference points is derived, then an annotation defined by an area between the outer boundary and the inner boundary is generated.

A method for emphasizing differences in graphical appearances between an original document and a modified document is provided in accordance with an aspect of the present invention. The method includes the step of receiving a first bitmap of the modified document, and a second bitmap of the original document. The method includes deriving a set of difference points based upon a comparison of the first bitmap and the second bitmap. The method includes a step of superposing a spatial index onto the set of difference points, and generating polygon vertices from a plurality of adjacent elements of index. Each of the elements has a predetermined density of difference points. The method concludes with generating an annotation from the polygon vertices.

The method includes displaying the original document with the original document defining an original document boundary and a first bitmap. The method includes displaying the modified document with the modified document defining a modified document boundary and a second bitmap. The method includes receiving a user-selected first reference point set including a plurality of reference points correlated to coordinates within the original document boundary. The method includes receiving a user-selected second reference point set including a plurality of reference points correlated to coordinates within the modified document boundary. The method includes transforming the first bitmap to a common reference using the first reference point set. The method includes transforming the second bitmap to the common reference using the second reference point set. The method includes comparing the bitmaps. The method includes displaying indicia related to the comparison of the bitmaps.
