A system and method for facilitating the processing of an expansion list. A script associated with an HTML document performs actions to process the expansion list. Actions include detaching the list of input controls from the HTML DOM when the list is not displayed and reattaching the list when it is displayed. Actions may also include maintaining the value of each input control, and processing each input control selection to update the value. The script may send value data to a server using a technique such as a hidden field or another element in the HTML DOM.

Input control processing

Embodiments are directed to generating feature values for selectable features using feature recombination. In one scenario, a computer system accesses a set of selectable features where each feature includes one or more feature values. The computer system encodes the accessed set of selectable features, so that the feature values are available for selection by various different users. The computer system generates a first population of feature values from the encoded set of selectable features and ranks each feature value in the first population of feature values based on which feature values are selected by the users. The computer system also generates a second population of feature values by recombining the feature values proportional to the ranking, and further generates subsequent populations of feature values by recombining the values across multiple iterations of expression of preference by different users. These feature values then converge on a subset of preferred feature values.

Distributed feature selection in social networks

Techniques are described herein for coordinating multiple asynchronous postbacks. Each postback specifies a requestor that initiates the postback. A requestor is a request to update a corresponding region of a Web page. Each time a server receives a postback from a client, the server provides a response to the client that includes an update regarding a region of the Web page that corresponds to a requestor that initiates the postback. The response further includes a requestor for each region of the Web page that is to be updated once the response is processed by the client. Upon receipt of each response from the server, the client provides a postback to the server. The client and server may continue to communicate in this manner until all regions of the Web page that are to be updated have been updated.

Coordinating multiple asynchronous postbacks

The debugging of breakpoints on pluggable components is provided. In a computing environment having extensible, pluggable components, systems and methods are provided to allow for the setting of breakpoints at various points in the run-time of the components such that errors may be observed, tracked, and resolved. In an illustrative implementation, a computing environment comprises a client, runtime, and tasks. In operation, the client communicates with the runtime and the tasks to perform debugging operations. The task sets breakpoints which are communicated to the client through the runtime. When a breakpoint is encountered the task is suspended such that the client can perform debugging should there be a problem in the task execution. Upon satisfaction, the client resumes the task operations through the runtime.
