Hybrid fibrous composite materials incorporating at least two different fabric components and a multicomponent adhesive system for adhering the fabric components together. The adhesive system enhances the bond strength between the fabric components, which would otherwise easily delaminate from each other and peel apart. The components of the adhesive system bond strongly to each other as well as to the fabric elements.

Peel strength between dissimilar fabrics

Multilayer composite materials combining a low tenacity nylon fabric with a fabric formed from high tenacity fibers. The fabrics are bonded with a compatibilizing adhesive system that achieves a peel strength of at least 1.5 lbs/inch. The nylon is colored with a camouflage pattern and the high strength fabric is colored with a color that does not stand out relative to the camouflage pattern. The composite materials are used for forming vest covers and plate carrier materials, particularly webless plate carrier materials having slots for hanging modular accessories.

Water repellent composite laminate fabrics

Fabrication of ballistic resistant fibrous composites having improved ballistic resistance properties. More particularly, ballistic resistant fibrous composites having high interlaminar lap shear strength between component fiber plies or fiber layers, which correlates to low composite backface signature. The high lap shear strength, low backface signature composites are useful for the production of hard armor articles, including helmet armor.

High lap shear strength, low back face signature UD composite and the process of making

Composite articles are formed by merging an open, non-woven grid formed from high tenacity elongate bodies with at least one substrate, forming an article having excellent tensile strength, excellent breathability and a unique aesthetic appearance.

Soft body armor having enhanced abrasion resistance

Disclosed are laminates from multiple stacked plies of a uni-directional tape in which the tape formed from a plurality of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene gel spun, multi-filament yarns. The resultant laminate contains not more than five percent resin by weight. Related methods of making a laminate of this type are also disclosed.

Laminates made from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene tape

Colored monofilament ultrahigh molecular weight polyolefin lines, and methods of making such colored lines are disclosed. The colorant can result in a product that provides a visual indication of metered length. When the colorant has a luminescent response to ultraviolet or infrared light, a line can change color based on the environmental conditions to which it is exposed. Methods of making the line can include feeding a substantially untwisted multifilament ultrahigh molecular weight polyolefin yarn; coating the substantially untwisted multifilament yarn with at least one colorant; twisting the coated multifilament yarn; and heating the twisted multifilament yarn to a temperature and for a time sufficient to at least partially fuse adjacent filaments together while stretching the yarn.

Colored lines and methods of making colored lines

Methods to determine the durability and wear-resistance of soft armor. Observations on field tested articles of soft body armor indicate that the materials are subject to a combination of flexing, tensile, compressive and abrasive forces. The forces and stresses to which soft armor articles are subjected to can be duplicated in a controlled, isolated, measurable, appropriate and intuitive manner, to correlate ballistic performance with durability and wear characteristics. The tests closely approximate the forces and stresses experienced in the end use of ballistic resistant composite articles.

Methods to determine the durability and wear-resistance of soft armor

A method of making colored monofilament ultrahigh molecular weight polyolefin fishing line, comprising the steps of feeding a substantially untwisted multifilament ultrahigh molecular weight polyolefin yarn; coating the substantially untwisted multifilament yarn with a colorant; twisting the coated multifilament yarn; and heating the twisted multifilament yarn to a temperature and for a time sufficient to at least partially fuse adjacent filaments together while stretching the yarn. The resultant product is a colored monofilament fishing line that has improved color-fastness and abrasion resistance.
