A prime mover arrangement includes a prime mover () including a first shaft () driven by the prime mover, a second shaft (), and a speed and torque manipulator () connected to the first shaft () and to the second shaft (), the speed and torque manipulator permitting manipulation between at least one non-one-to-one ratio or a plurality of different input/output ratios of speeds and torques input by the first shaft and output to the second shaft. A method is also disclosed.

A vehicle having a multiple drive axle assembly includes a forward axle assembly including a forward interaxle differential, a forward interaxle differential input shaft and a forward interaxle differential output shaft. An intermediate drive shaft is connected to the forward interaxle differential output shaft. A rear axle assembly includes a rear differential and a rear differential input shaft. A rear clutch arrangement is provided between the intermediate drive shaft and the rear differential input shaft and is movable between a first position in which the rear clutch arrangement rotationally locks the intermediate drive shaft and the rear differential input shaft and a second position in which the intermediate drive shaft and the rear differential input shaft are rotationally disconnected. The rear axle assembly of the vehicle can be raised and lowered relative to a frame of the vehicle.

A multiple rear drive axle system for a vehicle includes a first axle coupled with a drive shaft from a transmission of the vehicle. The first axle includes a first cantilevered input pinion mechanically coupled with the drive shaft and with a first driven gear. The system also includes an output shaft mechanically coupled with the drive shaft. A second axle has a second cantilevered input pinion mechanically coupled with the output shaft of the first axle system and with a second driven gear. The first and second input pinions are common, that is, are substantially identical pinions. The first and second driven gears are also common, that is, are substantially identical gears.
