Buckle assemblies having electronic engagement indicating devices for use with child seats and other restraint systems are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a restraint system for use with a child seat can include first and second web connectors which each have a corresponding tongue, and a buckle assembly including a housing that encloses a latch configured to engage the tongues. The buckle assembly can further include a magnet operably coupled to the latch, and an electronic switch operably positioned in the housing. The latch is configured to move between a first latch position in which the latch is disengaged from the tongues, and a second latch position in which the latch is engaged with the tongues. Movement of the latch from the first latch position to the second latch position moves the magnet relative to the electronic switch. In some embodiments, the electronic switch can include a Hall effect sensor that outputs a signal in response to movement of the magnetic field that is indicative of the engagement status of the latch.

Buckle assemblies for use with child seats and other personal restraint systems

Buckle assemblies and associated systems and methods for use with child seats and other restraint systems are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a buckle assembly includes a housing having an opening shaped to receive a first tongue of a first web connector and a second tongue of a second web connector. The buckle assembly also includes a spring having a first ejector arm carrying a first magnet and a second ejector arm carrying a second magnet. A switch assembly is positioned within the housing, and insertion of the tongues into the housing to latch the buckle assembly moves the magnets toward the switch assembly to activate switches in the switch assembly and produce a signal confirming buckle engagement.

Buckle assemblies and associated systems and methods for use with child seats and other restraint systems

Sealed web retractors and associated systems and methods for retracting a web, such as seat belt web, are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a web retractor includes a frame having a sidewall with a first opening, a locking assembly attached to the frame and having a housing with a second opening adjacent to the first opening, and a shaft coupler rotatably and sealably carried by the sidewall. The shaft coupler operably couples a spool shaft to the locking assembly through the first and second openings. At least one seal is operably positioned in the first opening between the shaft coupler and the sidewall.

Sealed web retractors for personal restraint systems and associated systems and methods

An assembly for coupling the rotor of a vehicle pedal assembly to the shaft of a vehicle pedal assembly. The rotor includes a cap which is fitted over a distal end of the shaft. The cap and the distal end of the shaft define a through aperture and an interior recess respectively. A coupling pin extends through the aperture in the cap of the rotor and into the recess in the shaft and includes a knurled outer surface which allows the pin to be interference fitted to the rotor and the shaft for securely coupling the rotor to the shaft.

Rotor/shaft pin coupling assembly for pedal assembly

A non-contacting sensor assembly including a connector assembly and a magnet assembly. The connector assembly includes a sensor coupled directly to the end of the terminals of the connector assembly. A sleeve is overmolded around and seals the sensor and the terminals. A capacitor is soldered in a recess in the terminals. The terminals include flexible regions, such as regions of reduced thickness, which reduce the effects of thermal expansion/contraction stresses on the solder. In one embodiment, the sensor assembly is a rotary position sensor assembly in which the magnet assembly is molded into a rotatable drive arm assembly located in a housing, the connector assembly is coupled to the housing, and the sensor extends into the housing and into adjacent relationship with the magnet assembly.

Non-contacting sensor assembly

An actuator and sensor assembly comprising respective sensor and actuator housings defining an interior chamber. Clips on the sensor housing engage the actuator housing for coupling the sensor and actuator housings together. The sensor housing includes a wall defining a pocket. A connector with a sensor couples to the sensor housing in a relationship wherein the sensor extends into the sensor housing pocket. A movable piston is located in the interior chamber and a tube thereon defines a receptacle for a magnet located adjacent the pocket. The piston is seated on a flexible diaphragm. An actuator shaft includes one end coupled to the piston and an opposite end coupled to a movable object. A plurality of pins in the actuator housing mount the assembly to a support bracket. The sensor senses changes in the magnetic field in response to changes in the position of the magnet relative to the sensor.

Actuator and sensor assembly

An assembly for retaining a coil wire assembly in the pocket of an electronic assembly such as, for example, a sensor. The retaining assembly comprises a cover which is snap-fitted over the pocket to retain and prevent the movement of the coil assembly in the pocket. In one embodiment, the ends of the coil wire assembly are retained in respective grooves formed in the cover and also in respective grooves formed in respective terminals which extend into the pocket.

Coil retention assembly for electronic assembly

An overmolded electronic device includes a pre-mold assembly having a positioning pin that extends upward through a mold material into contact with an inner cavity of a mold. The positioning pin is disposed within a containment area that is defined by sets of ribs configured in and conformed on the pre-mold assembly. The positioning pin thereby is sealed within the containment area that is in turn sealed from the remainder of the electronic device that prevents the intrusion of moisture or other contaminants into undesirable locations of the electronic device.

The present invention includes a rotary sensing system that includes a shaft, a magnet encircling the shaft, a pair of plates, each of which is positioned near distal ends of the magnet, and at least one sensing device. The magnet generates a magnetic field, the angle of which changes as the shaft rotates. The pair of plates directs the magnetic field generated by the magnet towards the at least one sensing device. The at least one sensing device is sensitive to the changes in the angle of the magnetic field, which are indicative of an angular position of the shaft.

Rotary angle sensing system

An example angular position sensor assembly includes a sector member that rotates within a ring including a permanent magnet disposed centrally within the ring and a Hall-effect sensor adjacent the permanent magnet on an opposite side of the permanent magnet from the sector member.

Contactless Hall-effect angular position sensor

A through the hole rotary position sensor which incorporates a single ring magnet with a central aperture. The rotating shaft whose angular position is to be sensed is received in the central aperture. The through the hole rotary position sensor includes a pair of pole pieces which extend around the circular magnet. Magnetic flux responsive elements are disposed adjacent the pole pieces. In order to shield the sensor from undesirable magnetic flux influences through the rotatable shaft, an internal shunt ring is provided around the exterior of the rotatable shaft. The circular magnet, pole pieces, magnetic flux responsive element, optional shunt rings and shunt discs are carried by a non-magnetic housing.

Through the hole rotary position sensor with non-symmetric pole pieces

A through the hole rotary position sensor which incorporates a single ring magnet with a central aperture is disclosed. The rotating shaft whose angular position is to be sensed is adapted to be received in the central aperture. The through the hole rotary position sensor in accordance with the present invention also includes a pair of pole pieces which extend at least partially around the circular magnet. One or more magnetic flux responsive elements are disposed adjacent the pole pieces. In order to shield the sensor from undesirable magnetic flux influences through the rotatable shaft, an optional internal shunt ring may be provided around the exterior of the rotatable shaft. In order to shield the sensor from undesirable external magnetic flux influences, an optional external shunt ring and top and bottom shunt discs may also be provided. The circular magnet, pole pieces, magnetic flux responsive element, optional shunt rings and shunt discs are carried by a non-magnetic housing. By utilizing a simple circular or ring magnet, the cost and complexity of the sensor is relatively lower relative to other known sensors.
