A method of operating a long term evolution (LTE) communication system on a shared frequency spectrum is disclosed. A user equipment (UE) is initialized on an LTE frequency band. A base station (eNB) monitors the shared frequency spectrum to determine if it is BUSY. The eNB transmits to the UE on the shared frequency spectrum if it is not BUSY. The eNB waits for a first time if it is BUSY and directs the UE to vacate the shared frequency spectrum after the first time.

Method and apparatus for transmitting LTE waveforms in shared spectrum by carrier sensing

An active EMI shield for protecting medical instruments from mobile RF emitters uses RFID tags and tag readers to facilitate identification of an RF emitter entering the EMI shield. Clinicians and mobile RF emitters are tagged with RFIDs that indicate their identity, and possibly RF power level. Medical instruments are either tagged with RFIDs that indicate their identity and susceptibility to EMI, or equipped with RFID readers/EMI sensors. The proximity of the RF emitter relative to the medical instrument in terms of power density can then be determined by either position-sensitive RFID readers or the EMI sensors affixed to the medical instruments. The shield is executed by signaling to the tagged RF emitter when it reaches a predetermined proximity relative to the medical instrument.

A method, system and apparatus for generating a constant amplitude zero autocorrelation (CAZAC) sequence to be transmitted on a wireless communication channel between a user equipment and a base station within a cellular communication network includes iteratively calculating elements of the CAZAC sequence according to a CAZAC sequence formula until a number of iterations has reached a predetermined iteration value determined in accordance with a number of subcarriers associated with the channel; obtaining a value of particular elements of the CAZAC sequence from a table of stored values at predetermined reset iteration values in order to limit error propagation; and generating the reference signal based upon the elements of the CAZAC sequence. The CAZAC sequence formula is one of a Chu sequence, Frank-Zadoff sequence, Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence, and Generalized Chirp-Like (GCL) Sequence.

Method, system and apparatus for generating constant amplitude zero autocorrelation sequences

A method of controlling RF interference in a healthcare establishment. The method comprises receiving data regarding a wirelessly detectable tag associated to a first piece of equipment within the healthcare establishment; determining whether the first piece of equipment is positioned relative to a second piece of equipment within the healthcare establishment such that an RF interference constraint is violated, based at least in part on the data regarding the wirelessly detectable tag; and responsive to the RF interference constraint being violated, causing a variation in RF power transmitted by at least one of the first piece of equipment and the second piece of equipment. In this way, wireless communication equipment can be used in the healthcare establishment without deleterious effects on sensitive medical equipment.

Use of location awareness to control radio frequency interference in a healthcare environment

According to a first broad aspect, the present invention seeks to provide a method of managing a session with an HIS. The method comprises receiving data regarding a wirelessly detectable tag associated with a first terminal; determining whether the first terminal is positioned relative to a second terminal such that a terminal proximity condition is satisfied based at least in part on the data regarding the wirelessly detectable tag, wherein one of the first terminal and the second terminal supports a session with the HIS; responsive to the terminal proximity condition being satisfied, providing an opportunity for signaling of an intent to transfer at least a portion of the session from the one of the terminals to the other of the terminals; and responsive to detection of an intent to transfer at least a portion of the session, transferring the at least a portion of the session, thereby to cause the at least a portion of the session to be supported by the other terminal.

Use of location awareness to transfer communications sessions between terminals in a healthcare environment

A method of managing access to a healthcare information system of a healthcare establishment communications network. The method comprises receiving data regarding a wirelessly detectable tag associated with a clinician; determining whether the clinician is positioned relative to a terminal of the healthcare establishment communications network such that a proximity condition is satisfied based at least in part on the data regarding the wirelessly detectable tag; responsive to the proximity condition being satisfied, providing an opportunity for authentication of the clinician; and responsive to successful authentication of the clinician, establishing a session for the clinician between the terminal and the healthcare information system. The ability to detect proximity of clinician facilitates the process by which the clinician may access the healthcare information system, while the requirement for authentication of the clinician minimizes the risk of data being made available to an unauthorized party.
