An accessory device, such as a mobile telematics unit, captures tags for user desired media content items from a content broadcast, such as a digital radio broadcast or television broadcast. Each tag provides one or more parameters for identification of a song or other audio selection. The accessory device sends each tag over a mobile communications network air interface, with an identifier of an account of a mobile communications network subscriber. A server receives such tag transmissions and compiles a list of one or more tags directly from the accessory device, for the subscriber on the identified mobile service account. In some situations, the server generates a playlist from the stored list of tags and communicates at least a portion of the playlist to a personal media device, upon access by the personal media device to the subscriber's account.

Systems and methods for recommending an application from a mobile station are shown and described. Components of the network and components in communication with the network cooperate to confirm whether a mobile station recommended to receive the application is capable of executing the application and provisioning the application for transmission to the recommended mobile station.

Systems and method for recommending an application from a mobile station

An adult associated with a mobile station of a minor is allowed to monitor and control the multimedia content, such as multimedia messaging service (MMS) message content, that is accessible via the minor's mobile station. A mobile station of the minor may be identified as such in the network information associated with that station's mobile number. The information for the minor's mobile station also identifies a mobile station of an associated adult. An MMS message addressed for delivery to the mobile station of the minor is first sent to the mobile station of the associated adult. This enables the adult to determine if the content of the MMS message is approved for delivery to the minor. If the adult approves the MMS content, the MMS message is forwarded to the minor's mobile station, but the MMS message is not forwarded to the minor if the adult disapproves of the content.

Parental control of mobile message content

Multimedia message service (MMS) communications directly between mobile stations avoid interactions with a MMS Center (MMSC). In the examples, the originating station sends a short message service (SMS) message notifying the destination mobile station of the availability of the MMS message. This message provides an IP address of the originating station and an identifier for retrieval of the MMS message. In response, the destination mobile station sends back a packet message using the IP address of the originating station and the identifier, to request retrieval of the MMS message. The request message also includes an IP address for packet communication with the destination station. The originating mobile station uses that address for packet communication of the MMS message to the destination mobile station. In the examples, the destination station sends the MMS message to a regional node, for possible transcoding and/or to facilitate billing.

Direct mobile station-to-mobile station communication of multimedia message service (MMS) messages

Mobile stations, methods, functionality, and articles of manufactures enable mobile stations to automatically respond to a messaging service message. An application is stored and executed on a mobile station. The application provides functionality to determine response message content for use by the application, receive a mobile messaging service message, and respond automatically, without interaction by the end-user of the mobile station, send a response to the received mobile messaging service message containing the message content for the sender of the received mobile messaging service message. The automatic response application may be user activated or automatically activated under various circumstances including at a specific time, on a regularly scheduled basis, upon detection of movement faster than a predetermined speed, or upon detection of the station being in a mobile vehicle.

Systems and method for automating a response from a mobile station

A firearm equipped with a capability of wireless communication reports a discharge of the firearm to a reporting center terminal via a wireless communication link. The firearm includes a firearm housing including a trigger assembly. A sensor is coupled to the firearm housing for sensing the discharge of the firearm. The housing, e.g., portion of a pistol grip, also encases a wireless communication unit for transmitting a message indicating occurence of the firearm discharge to the terminal via wireless communication network. A GPS receiver installed in the firearm receives GPS signals from GPS satellites to enable calculation of the location of the firearm, either at the firearm or by a Position Determining Equipment (PDE), to identify the location of the firearm to the reporting center terminal. Upon detection of the discharge of the firearm, the firearm initiates activities of the GPS receiver and the wireless communication unit.

A set top box determines DVR requests that the set top box is not able to record based on a number of scheduled DVR requests. The set top box provides the DVR request to a DVR management server. The DVR management server selects another set top box to record the television content associated with the DVR request based on a number DVR requests the other set top box is scheduled to record. The DVR management server issues a command to the other set top box to record the television content associated with the DVR request. The other set top box provides the recorded television content, associated with the DVR request, to the set top box.
