A method for forming heat exchanger plates () comprises formation of a fluid flow channel () along the edges () of a sheet metal strip or blank, and formation of a pair of raised end bosses. The raised end bosses () are elongated in the longitudinal dimension and are formed within the final width dimension of the plate so as to avoid the need for trimming of excess material along the edges of the plate. The method generates less scrap than prior art processes using progressive stamping, and also permits variation of the plate lengths.

A flapper valve assembly has a valve plate for attachment to a fluid device, such as a heat exchanger. The valve plate has a fluid port for permitting intermittent flow to or from a flow chamber in the fluid device. A resilient flapper covers the fluid port and has at least one transverse tab with resilient, laterally disposed tangs, so that the tabs snap into slots in the valve plate to prevent rotation of the flapper.

Self-enclosing heat exchangers are made from stacked plates having raised peripheral flanges on one side of the plates and continuous peripheral ridges on the other side of the plates, so that when the plates are put together, fully enclosed alternating flow channels are provided between the plates. The plates have raised bosses defining fluid ports that line-up in the stacked plates to form manifolds for the flow of heat exchange fluids through alternate plates. Expanded metal turbulizers are located in the flow channels. The turbulizers have portions thereof crimped closed to control the flow inside the channels and prevent unwanted bypass flow.

Heat exchanger plates and manufacturing method

A plate type heat exchanger as disclosed having a plurality of stacked plate pairs. Each plate pair has opposed inlet and outlet openings that are in registration to form respective inlet and outlet flow manifolds for the flow of fluid through the plate pairs. Each of the inlet and outlet openings has an inner peripheral edge portion including opposed, flange segments extending inwardly and being joined together to prevent expansion of the manifolds under pressure.
