An apparatus and method for testing the integrity of packaging using vacuum. The apparatus consists of tank with an interior chamber, a lid operable to allow placement of a package into the interior chamber, a hold down plate attached to the lid, a measuring device configured to measure the size of the package, and a vacuum device configured to apply vacuum to the interior chamber of the vacuum chamber. During testing the package is submerged in a liquid, then placed under vacuum until predetermined size is reached. Then the package is inspected for indications of leakage.

Apparatus and method for testing package integrity

A connector assembly is provided for connecting an electrical lead to the electrical contact of an electrode. The connector assembly includes a retention plate having an opening configured to receive the electrical contact of the electrode therethrough such that the retention plate is held on the electrode, and a housing including a body and a receptacle extending into the body. The receptacle includes a size and shape that is complimentarily to the electrical contact of the electrode such that the receptacle is configured to receive at least a portion of the electrical contact therein. The receptacle is configured such that when the electrical contact is received within the receptacle, the receptacle is configured to hold a portion of the electrical lead within the receptacle between the electrical contact and the body of the housing such that the electrical lead is engaged with and electrically connected to the electrical contact. A connection member is configured to hold the housing on the retention plate.

Connector assembly for connecting an electrical lead to an electrode

An electrode lead set is provided for electrical connection to a body. The electrode lead set includes a flexible ribbonized cable core extending between a proximal end portion and a distal end portion. The distal end portion includes a plurality of branch end portions that are each configured to hold an electrode. The flexible ribbonized cable core is separable into a plurality of branches that are each joined to adjacent branches by a separable interface prior to separation. Each of the plurality of branches includes a corresponding one of the branch end portions. Each of the plurality of branches includes a generally planar ribbon conductor extending along the corresponding branch from the proximal end portion of the ribbonized cable core to the corresponding branch end portion.

Electrode lead set for measuring physiologic information

A termination cap is provided for terminating an electrical lead to a stud of an electrode. The termination cap includes a body and a receptacle extending into the body. The receptacle includes a size and shape that is complimentary to the stud of the electrode such that the receptacle is configured to receive at least a portion of the stud therein. The receptacle is configured such that when the stud is received within the receptacle, the receptacle is configured to hold a portion of the electrical lead between the body and the stud such that the electrical lead is engaged with and electrically connected to the stud.

Termination cap for terminating an electrical lead directly to a stud of an electrode and an electrode lead assembly containing such termination cap

A cap facility for a medical cable having a terminal defining a rimmed chamber containing electrical contacts. The facility has a frame that connects to the terminal. An arm is connected to the frame, and is movable between a first closed position and a second open position. The arm is biased to the closed position, and has a cap adapted to enclose the rimmed chamber when the arm is in the closed position. The cap has an arcuate motion path between the open position and an intermediate position proximate to the closed position, and an initial motion path deviating from the arcuate path, such that the cap moves away from the rim initially upon departing from the closed position. The facility may have a camming mechanism that provides the path.

Cable terminal sealing facility

A connector assembly with front and rear bodies ( ) and a surrounding shell ( ), has a potting material ( ) that is molded around the cable ( ) and within a rear body passageway ( ) in a manner that avoids leakage of the potting material. The shell outside surface has outwardly-projecting ridges ( ) for effectively grasping the connector, and the front body is latchable to the shell with robust latch arms ( ). An O-ring ( ) lying forward of the threading connections ( ) of the bodies limits leakage of the potting material flowed under pressure into the passageway. The outer shell is molded with ridges ( ) extending in loops that facilitate correct gripping and avoid slipping of the thumb on the connector. The front body has slots ( ) forming latch arms that latch to openings in the shell, the arms being formed by slots with enlarged ends ( ).

Connector with overmold seal/robust latch

A fetal electrode sleeve and wire interconnect system for transmitting signals indicative of fetal heart rate from a fetus inside a mother through a cable to a monitor external to the mother. The system includes a holder having a fetal spiral electrode on one end and a maternal reference electrode on its opposite end. A safety cap has a retention groove, a grip, a tip with a recessed end opposite the grip, and a conductive sleeve. The conductive sleeve has a first end enclosed by the grip, a second end enclosed by the tip, and an intermediate exposed portion enclosed by neither the grip nor the tip. A twisted wire strand including a pair of insulated wires each having a first end and a second end, the first ends of the wires respectively connected to the fetal electrode and the maternal reference electrode, the second end of one wire attached to the first end of the conductive sleeve and the other wire being disposed inside the conductive sleeve, extending beyond the second end of the conductive sleeve, and terminating at its second end as a bare and exposed wire at the recessed end of the tip so that the second end of the wire is protected. A housing receives the safety cap and facilitates electrical connection between the wires and the cable.
