An inkjet printhead including an inkjet configured to eject drops of ink in response to receiving an electrical signal, a memory configured to store image data, and a processor operatively coupled to the inkjet and the memory. The processor receives the image data and determines a period of latency of the inkjet printhead. When the period of latency is within a predetermined timeframe, the processor increases a voltage of the electrical signal to a second voltage for an initial number of drops to eject the drops of ink in a pattern of printed ink drops with reference to at least a portion of the image data and reduce the voltage of the electrical signal after the initial number of drops to eject drops of ink in a pattern of printed ink drops with reference to a remaining portion of the image data, and generates the electrical signal.

Methods and systems for ejecting drops from inkjets following a period of latency

A method for operating an inkjet printer includes identifying a pattern of ink drops ejected from an inkjet with reference to image data for a printed image, identifying a waveform component for an electrical signal operating the inkjet to eject an ink drop in the pattern of ink drops with reference to at least a portion of the image data, and generating the electrical signal with the identified waveform component to eject the ink drop in the pattern of ink drops at a first velocity onto a first location of an image receiving surface.

Waste phase change ink recycling

A system for recycling waste phase change ink in a phase change ink imaging device includes a waste ink collector positioned within a phase change ink imaging device to collect waste phase change ink produced by a printhead in the phase change ink imaging device. The waste ink collector includes a heater for heating the waste phase change ink in the collector to at least a phase change ink melting temperature. A waste phase change ink conveyor is configured to convey melted waste phase change ink from the waste ink collector to an ink reservoir for the printhead.

A method of operating a printhead of an imaging device includes actuating a plurality of ink jets of the printhead to emit drops of ink onto an image receiving surface in accordance with a test pattern. The test pattern includes full pixel density areas and half pixel density areas that alternate in a process direction. Distances in a process direction between drops of the full pixel density areas and drops of the half pixel density areas in transition regions of the test pattern are then measured. The measured process direction distances are then correlated to a graininess level for the printhead.

Method for calibration

A drop generator includes a pressure chamber and a flexible diaphragm plate disposed on the chamber and forming a wall of the pressure chamber. A piezoelectric transducer having a bottom surface is attached to the diaphragm plate. The diaphragm plate includes a recess that forms a perimeter around the bottom surface of the transducer that partially underlies at least one edge of the bottom surface. An inlet channel is connected to the pressure chamber and configured to direct ink to the pressure chamber from a manifold. An outlet channel is connected to the pressure chamber to receive ink from the pressure chamber and has a channel axis that is perpendicular to the diaphragm plate. The outlet channel includes a first outlet channel section and a second outlet channel section. The first outlet channel section includes a plurality of subsections having alternating diameters. The second outlet channel section includes an aperture disposed at an end thereof. The second outlet channel section has a substantially continuous cross-sectional shape and a length that is greater than a length of the first outlet channel section.

Drop generator

A method of adjusting an ink jet imaging device comprises measuring a drop parameter for drops generated by each drop generator in a plurality of drop generators. Each drop generator is configured to generate a drop in response to a drop generating signal having a fill portion, an eject portion, and a resonance tuning portion. A first portion of the drops are generated by each drop generator at a first fill density, and a second portion of the drops are generated by each drop generator at a second fill density. A drop parameter difference is measured for each drop generator of the plurality of drop generators of drops generated at the first and second fill densities. The resonance tuning portion of the drop generating signal for at least one drop generator is adjusted so that the drop parameter difference for the drop generator corresponds to the drop parameter difference normalization value.
