Implementations relate to medical simulations for medical procedure training. In some implementations, a system includes a simulation processing component including at least one processor and which generates a virtual environment using position signals that describe at least one of a position and a configuration of a physical surgical instrument relative to a physical surgical site. The simulation processing component updates the virtual environment according to changes in the position signals and according to control signals corresponding to inputs by a user of the system. The updating includes moving a virtual surgical instrument within the virtual environment, where an interaction of the virtual surgical instrument with a virtual surgical site is defined at least partly by a physical relationship between the physical surgical instrument and the physical surgical site. The simulation processing component outputs a representation of a simulation state signal indicative of a current state of the virtual environment.

An endoscope system comprises an endoscope and a display to display image content captured by the endoscope. The endoscope system also comprises one or more sensors located in a headrest and configured to detect an input at the headrest. The endoscope system also comprises a control module configured to receive one or more sensor signals from the one or more sensors. The one or more sensor signals indicate movement of the headrest with respect to a support on which the headrest is mounted or pressure applied to the headrest. The control module is also configured to adjust the image content displayed by the display in response to the one or more sensor signals.

A method for processing video comprises storing, at a video data buffer, an input video frame data received from a source, causing the stored video frame data to be output from the video data buffer at an output video frame rate, and varying the output video frame rate based on a comparison of an amount of video frame data stored at the video data buffer to a threshold amount of frame data. The threshold amount of frame data may be based on a target total latency between capture of the input video frame data at the source and display of the stored video frame data output from the video data buffer.

Method for video processing using a buffer

A system may comprise a video data buffer configured to store input video frame data received from a source; and a video processor logically coupled to the video data buffer, wherein the video processor is configured to cause the stored video frame data to be output from the video data buffer at an output video frame rate, and vary the output video frame rate based on an amount of video frame data stored at the video data buffer.

An endoscope control system comprises one or more sensors located in a headrest and configured to detect an input at the headrest. The one or more sensors include at least one of an array of pressure sensors positioned adjacent to a forehead rest surface, a joystick controller mounted in the headrest, or a slip plate mounted to the headrest. The endoscope control system further comprises an endoscope control module configured to receive one or more sensor signals from the sensors indicating movement of the headrest or pressure applied to the headrest and providing an indication of intended movement of an image provided by an endoscope. A method of searching video content for specific subject matter of interest augments traditional image data analysis methods with analysis of contemporaneously gathered non-image data. One application involves video recordings of medical procedures performed using a medical device. When a user desires to locate portions of video recordings showing a medical event of interest, one or more medical device system events likely to correspond to the occurrence of the medical event of interest are identified from one or more procedure event logs. Timestamps associated with these system events are used to identify candidate video clips from the procedure video recordings. Image data analysis is performed on the candidate video clips to determine whether each candidate video clip contains the medical event of interest.

In some embodiments, the endoscope can be controlled using sensors integrated with a surgeon's headrest mounted on the surgeon's console.

A medical robotic system that includes a robotically controlled surgical instrument. The system includes a constraint controller that constrains the movement of the instrument based on a predetermined parameter. The parameter may be a surgical space, wherein the instrument cannot be moved into, or alternatively cannot be moved out of, the space. The surgically constrained spaced may be defined through a telestrator screen that allows a surgeon to point and click the boundaries of the space.
