Method for preparing light-absorbing polymeric compositions

The present invention relates to a polymeric composition suitable for use in films, molded articles and fibers, including microdenier fibers. The polymeric composition comprises a thermoplastic resin in an amount from about 50 weight percent to about 99.9 weight percent of the polymeric composition, and a dye composition in an amount from about 0.1 weight percent to about 50 weight percent of the polymeric composition. The dye composition contains an indanthrone compound as a major component. As used herein, indanthrone compounds are defined as compounds having the general structure represented by Formula I:

The present invention relates to a container preform comprising: a polymer suitable for the production of a stretch blow molded bottle and at least one organic or metallated organic near infrared absorbing compound which absorbs at least twice as much light between about 700 nm and about 1200 nm as between about 400 mn and about 700 nm wherein said near infrared absorbing compound is present in an amount sufficient to improve reheat rate of said preform. Suitable near infrared absorbing compounds include phthalocyanines, 2,3-napthalocyanines, squaraines (squaric acid derivatives), croconic acid derivatives, substituted indanthrones and certain highly substituted anthraquinones. A process for improving the reheat rate of a container preform is also disclosed.

The invention relates to anthraquinone polysulfonamide colorants derived from colored disulfonyl chlorides containing anthraquinone chromophores by reacting with various diamines. The anthraquinone polysulfonamide colorants are useful for coloring a wide variety of products such as plastics, fibers, films, cosmetics, skin creams or lotions, polishes, waxes, hair colorations, coatings, paints, inks, etc. and are particularly useful in end uses where sublimation, migration, extraction and exudation of presently used colorants are problems.

Anthraquinone polysulfonamide colorants

Disclosed herein is a thermoplastic polymer composition comprising a blend of a thermoplastic polymer admixed with from about 5 to 50 ppm black iron oxide particles, based on the amount of said thermoplastic polymer. The black iron oxide is admixed with the polymer in order to speed up the process of reheating parisons formed from the polymer during bottle manufacturing. The composition has the beneficial combination of a large percent reheat rate improvement (RIV) with only a small decrease in transparency (.DELTA.L*). The ratio of RIV/.DELTA.L* is significantly better than carbon black--polymer blends having similar RIV.

A yellow, hot melt alkyd traffic marking composition is described. The yellow, hot melt alkyd traffic marking composition contains 10-25 percent by weight of a hot melt alkyd binder, 5-10 percent by weight of a thermally stable 1,5- or 1,8-substituted anthraquinone colorant selected from a 1,5- or 1,8-substituted anthraquinone aromatic thioether and a 1,5- or 1,8-substituted anthraquinone aromatic thioether polyester, and 65-85 weight percent of a filler. The yellow, hot melt alkyd traffic marking composition of the invention may also contain other components used in traffic marking compositions, such as a reflectivity aid, a plasticizer, or an impact modifier. Other optional components are discussed below. The yellow, hot melt alkyd traffic marking compositions may be applied to any paved surface.

Yellow, hot melt alkyd traffic marking compositions

The present invention relates to a black polymeric composition suitable for use in films, fibers and molded articles, where a soluble, easily dispersed colorant is desirable. The black polymeric composition provides a high black color quality and is small enough to function as a black colorant in microdenier fibers. The black polymeric composition comprises a thermoplastic resin in an amount between about 50 weight percent and about 99.9 weight percent of the black polymeric composition, and a black dye composition in an amount between about 0.1 weight percent and about 50 weight percent of the black polymeric composition. The black dye composition contains a black indanthrone compound as a major component. As used herein, black indanthrone compounds are defined as compounds having the general structure represented by Formula I: ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or at least one group independently selected from C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy, halogen, hydroxy, trifluoromethyl, aryloxy, arylthio, arylamino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 carbalkoxy, --CO.sub.2 H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkanoyloxy, arylazo, --CN, --NO.sub.2, --SO.sub.2 --C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, --SO.sub.2 N(R1)R2, and --CON(R1)R2, wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyl, aryl and hydrogen. The present invention further relates to a process for preparing the black polymeric composition, processes for preparing the black dye composition and articles formed from the black polymeric composition.

A colored polyester copolymer comprising the reaction product of at least one linear thermoplastic polyester precursor and at least ten parts per million by weight of a residue of at least one 1,4-bis (2,6-dialkylanilino)-9,10-anthraquinone colorant. A composition may be formed comprising the copolymer in admixture with at least one thermoplastic polymer. The copolymer may be formed by reacting at least one thermoplastic polyester precursor with a 1,4-bis (2,6-dialkylanilino)-9,10-anthraquinone colorant which has a polyester reactive group.
