This invention relates to compositions suitable for use as coatings. More particularly, this invention relates to compositions suitable for use as industrial coatings such as anti-corrosion coatings, protective coatings and adhesive coatings. This invention relates to compositions and methods for coating substrates. More particularly, the invention relates to coating compositions and methods for coating substrates, where the coating compositions comprise polymerized olefins and cyclic olefins, via different chemical transformations. The invention also relates to methods of applying the coatings to the substrates.

Coating compositions

This invention relates to compositions and methods for improving the adhesion of resin compositions to substrate materials, pre-treating substrate materials to improve the adhesion of resin compositions to the substrate materials, and/or controlling gel formation of resin compositions. More particularly, the invention relates to compositions and methods for improving the adhesion of ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) compositions to substrate materials using adhesion promoters containing isocyanate groups in a resin composition. The invention also relates to methods for improving the adhesion of resin compositions to substrate materials by pre-treating substrate materials with adhesion promoters containing isocyanate groups. The invention further relates to a method of providing a gel-modified ROMP composition, in which a hydroperoxide is added to a ROMP polymerizable resin composition in order to control gel formation of the polymerizing resin. An improved ROMP composition is further disclosed, comprising a cyclic olefin, a ROMP metathesis catalyst, an adhesion promoter, and an added hydroperoxide gel modifier. The polymer products produced via ROMP reactions of the invention may be utilized for a wide range of materials and composite applications. The invention has utility in the fields of catalysis, organic synthesis, and polymer and materials chemistry and manufacture.

Adhesion promoters and gel-modifiers for olefin metathesis compositions

This invention relates to compositions and methods for improving the adhesion of resin compositions to substrate materials. More particularly, the invention relates to compositions and methods for improving the adhesion of ROMP compositions to substrate materials using an adhesion promoter composition, where the adhesion promoter composition comprises a pre-reacted mixture comprising at least one compound containing at least two isocyanate groups and at least one compound comprising a heteroatom-containing functional group and a metathesis active olefin, where the adhesion promoter composition is storage stable and/or possesses in-resin storage stability when added to a resin composition, particularly a cyclic olefin resin composition, such as a ROMP composition. The polymer products produced via ROMP reactions of the invention may be utilized for a wide range of materials and composite applications. The invention has utility in the fields of polymer and materials chemistry and manufacture.

Adhesion promoter compositions for cyclic olefin resin compositions

This invention relates to compositions and methods for improving the adhesion of resin compositions to substrate materials, pre-treating substrate materials to improve the adhesion of resin compositions to the substrate materials, and/or controlling gel formation of resin compositions. The invention discloses an adhesion agent composition comprising at least one C-Colefin compound having at least one metathesis active double bond, wherein the olefin is substituted or unsubstituted; and at least one compatibilizing functionality for interacting with a substrate surface. The substrate surface can be any surface, for example, silicate glasses, silicate minerals, metals, metal alloys, ceramics, natural stones, plastics, carbon, silicon, and semiconductors. The invention also discloses articles of manufacture utilizing these adhesion agents as well as methods for adhering a polyolefin to a substrate surface.

The present invention relates to methods and compositions for olefin metathesis. Storage stable adhesion promoter compositions for cyclic olefin resin compositions

Olefin metathesis polymerization reactions are disclosed, and more particularly ring-opening metathesis polymerization of cyclic olefins with olefinic compounds, such as are derived from seed oils and the like, to form telechelic polymers. In one aspect, a method is provided for carrying out a catalytic ring-opening metathesis polymerization reaction, comprising contacting at least one olefinic compound with at least one cyclic olefin, in the presence of a ruthenium alkylidene olefin metathesis catalyst under conditions effective to allow ring-opening metathesis polymerization of the cyclic olefin, whereby the cyclic olefin polymer formed is terminated with the olefinic compound. The invention has utility in the fields of catalysis, organic synthesis, polymer chemistry, and industrial chemistry.
