Compounds of formula I and II are described. In formulae I and II, X is &#x2014;NH&#x2014; or &#x2014;S&#x2014; and Y is &#x2014;CH&#x2550; or &#x2014;N&#x2550;. In formula I, Z is C-Calkylene, C-Calkenylene, C-Carylene, or C-Ccycloalkylene, or Z is absent. In formula I, R is hydrogen, halogen, &#x2014;OH, &#x2014;NO, C-Calkyl, C-Calkenyl, C-Caryl, &#x2014;O(C-Calkyl), or &#x2014;O(C-Caryl), wherein each hydrogen atom in C-Calkyl, C-Calkenyl, C-Caryl, &#x2014;O(C-Calkyl), and &#x2014;O(C-Caryl) is independently optionally substituted by halogen, &#x2014;OH, or &#x2014;NO. In formula II, R, R, R, and Rare each independently hydrogen, halogen, &#x2014;OH, &#x2014;NO, C-Calkyl, C-Calkenyl, or C-Caryl, wherein each hydrogen atom in C-Calkyl, C-Calkenyl, and C-Caryl is independently optionally substituted by halogen, &#x2014;OH, or &#x2014;NO. Methods of inhibiting bacteria are also described.

Oxadiazole and phenol derivatives as antibacterial and/or herbicidal agents

Pyrazolopyrimidine compounds for inhibition of isoprenoid biosynthesis have a formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. In formula (I), Rincludes an alkyl group and Rincludes an optionally substituted moiety selected from the group consisting of an optionally substituted benzyl group, an optionally substituted phenethyl group, an optionally substituted ethanol group, an optionally substituted ethyl acetate group, an optionally substituted methyl furan group, an optionally substituted 3-ethyl indole group, and a lower alkyl group. Compositions containing pyrazolopyrimidine compounds and methods for using pyrazolopyrimidine compounds are described.
