A method of coordinating a plurality of radio access networks (RANs) includes aggregating, with a gateway, communications interfaces between a plurality of RANs and a packet core network through the gateway. A plurality of radio nodes (RNs) in each of the RANs is communicatively coupled to the gateway and to user equipment (UE) devices associated with the RNs in each of the RANs. The gateway also controls and coordinates mobility of the UE devices within and among the RANs. In addition, the gateway acts as a virtual enhanced NodeB (eNB) to the packet core network, thereby hiding the aggregated communications interfaces from the packet core network.

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for coordinated beamforming in a wireless mesh network, are disclosed. One system includes a network that includes a plurality of nodes connected through wireless links, and a controller. The wireless links including aggressor links and victim links wherein the aggressor links interfere with the victim links. The controller is operative to identify aggressor links and victim links of a group of nodes of the plurality of nodes, coordinate beam scans of the one or more victim receive nodes associated with the victim links of the group, coordinate transmission of one or more aggressor transmit nodes associated with the aggressor links of the group, characterize or receive characterizations of measured interference at the one or more victim receive nodes during the coordinated beam scans, and select beamforming coefficients for the victim receive nodes based at least on the characterizations of the measured interference.

A system comprising a plurality of nodes communicatively coupled to one another via at least one wireless link and a controller communicatively coupled to at least one of the nodes, wherein the controller (1) coordinates at least one scan that measures interference introduced into the wireless link, (2) identifies, based at least in part on the scan, one or more characteristics of the wireless link, (3) determines, based at least in part on the characteristics of the wireless link, that the node is eligible for a tapered codebook that, when implemented, modifies at least one feature of an antenna array that supports the wireless link in connection with the node, and then (4) directs the node to implement the tapered codebook. The controller is operative to identify the aggressor links and the victim links of a group of nodes of the plurality of nodes, coordinate beam scans of aggressor transmitter nodes associated with the aggressor links, coordinate reception of one or more victim receive nodes associated with the victim links, characterize or receive characterizations of measured interference at the one or more victim receive nodes during the coordinated beam scans, and select beamforming coefficients for the aggressor transmitter nodes based at least on the characterizations of the measured interference.

Coordinated beamforming of transmitting nodes in a wireless mesh network

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for a network-based clock for time distribution across a wireless network, are disclosed. One system includes a network that includes a time distributor, a time receiver, and a plurality of network elements providing one or more network connections between the time distributor and the time receiver. The plurality of network elements includes an ingress network element and an egress network element. The time distributor receives and synchronizes to a first clock. Two or more of the plurality of network elements receives and synchronize to a second clock. A forward network transit delay is determined between the ingress network element and the egress network element and a backward network transit delay is determined between the egress network element and the ingress network element. The time receiver time synchronizes to the time distributor using the forward network transit delay and the backward network transit delay.

Network-based clock for time distribution across a wireless network

Arrangements disclosed here provide an LTE E-RAN employing a hierarchical architecture with a central controller controlling multiple LTE radio nodes (RNs). The RNs may be clustered within the small cell network. A fractional frequency reuse ('FFR') scheme is provided that dynamically computes the FFR allocations at individual RNs and configures the corresponding schedulers within each RN to improve cell-edge users' experience. Once an FFR pattern has been generated and frequencies allocated, UE throughput can be emulated to predict the resulting bit rates for each UE. Using the prediction, a scheduler emulation may be run to predict the behavior of the system. The results of each cell may then be collected to generate the performance of the entire system, which may in turn be used to generate a new or modified FFR pattern, or new or modified clustering. Optimization of the performance results in an optimized FFR pattern.

Fractional frequency reuse schemes assigned to radio nodes in an LTE network

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for synchronizing nodes of a wireless network are disclosed. One method includes identifying synchronization paths between synchronization reference nodes of the wireless network and each non-reference node of the wireless network, wherein each synchronization path includes one or more wireless hops between the synchronization reference nodes and the non-reference node, determining a number of timing slots needed for supporting each of the identified synchronization paths, and selecting at least one of the synchronization paths between each non-reference node and at least one of the synchronization reference nodes based on a number of wireless hops of each of the identified synchronization paths and the determined number of timing slots needed to support each of the identified synchronization paths.

Time synchronization of a wireless network

Systems and methods are disclosed that provide a closed loop power control system including adaptively adjusting the desired target SINR over time so as to ultimately achieve a feasible SINR. In one implementation, a method is provided of optimizing uplink closed loop power control in a RAN in which one or more base stations each service a plurality of mobile stations, including: determining a power level for each mobile station for its respective uplink transmissions, including measuring a current achieved SINR for each mobile station; and for each mobile station, adjusting the power level to be sufficiently high to meet desired transmission characteristics but not so high as to cause unnecessary interference with transmissions from other mobile stations, by adjusting a desired target SINR based on factors selected from the following: current and prior achieved SINRs, current and prior interference measurements, and current and prior transmission power control commands.

System and method for closed loop uplink power control

Systems and methods are disclosed for managing an aggregated self-organizing network (A-SON). In such, a plurality of small cells is grouped into clusters using available topology information. In one implementation, a subset of clusters is assigned to groups of a first type, such that the clusters within a group of the first type have minimal RF connectivity. For example, scanning or updating of RF parameters may then be coordinated such that adjacent clusters do not scan or update simultaneously but clusters within groups of the first type do have at least partially overlapping scans or updates. Similarly, subsets of clusters may be assigned to first and second groups of a second type, such that the clusters within a first group of the second type have sufficient coverage to provide RF connectivity to clusters within the second group, if the second group encounters a service interruption. Other benefits are also described.
