A system and method are provided. The system includes a gateway portion (), embedded in a gateway device, having an embedded artificial intelligence engine () for processing commands using natural language processing. The system further includes a supplemental cloud server portion () having a supplemental artificial intelligence engine () for processing, using the natural language processing, the commands unable to be processed by the embedded artificial intelligence engine. The gateway portion () further includes a configuration and status interface () for performing at least one of diagnostic operations, configuration operations, and status operations, on the gateway device responsive to instructions from any of the embedded artificial intelligence engine and the supplemental artificial intelligence engine.

Cloud service supplementing embedded natural language processing engine

A method and apparatus are disclosed for processing content recording requests. The method includes producing a prioritized set of recording requests from all pending recording requests, analyzing the prioritized set of requests with respect to available resources, and producing a list of content requests to be excluded from a recording schedule due to resource constraints. Content recording is performed based on results of the analysis.

Method and apparatus for processing requests for recording content

There are provided respective systems and methods for recording and playing back media content. The system for recording media content includes a segmenter () for splitting transport stream data and index data corresponding to the media content into discrete files at periodic intervals on access point boundaries. Each of the discrete files includes a respective transport segment and a respective index segment. The system also includes a segment storage device () for storing the discrete files.

Managing time-shift data

A method to preferentially wait for fresh data from a primary source to become available in a system where there is also an older set of data from a secondary source. The method includes receiving a data request that is to be displayed and determining if the data from the primary source is available. If the primary source is not available, a dynamic threshold value is tested to detect if a wait time for access to the primary source is exceeded. If the wait time for access to the primary source is exceeded, then older data from the secondary source instead of the primary source is acquired. The dynamic threshold includes an elapsed time since receipt of the request as measured from a receipt time of a prior request.

Caching mechanism to improve user interface responsiveness

A database query is intercepted by a query analyzer before it reaches a database. The query analyzer then tracks where the query accesses the database and how long the operation takes to complete. A statistical model is then constructed during runtime based on this tracking information to create an updated index schema for the database. The database index structure is then updated with the new schema to reduce query access times.

Dynamic database indexing

A method and system are provided for processing a reply message out of order from a first-in-first-out (FIFO) storage, and processing other messages in an order as received in the FIFO storage. The system provides a second FIFO storage for storing any messages that have been retrieved from the first FIFO while searching for the reply message.

System and method of expedited message processing using a first-in-first-out transport mechanism

A method for handling a system call in an operating system executed by a processor is disclosed. The message comprises steps of receiving the system call to a called process from a calling process; if the system call is a synchronous system call and if a priority of the calling process is higher than a priority of the called process, increasing the priority of the called process to be at least the priority of the calling process; and switching context to the called process.
