This disclosure describes, in part, techniques for identifying application events. For instance, system(s) may provide an application, such as a gaming application, by receiving input data generated by a control device and updating states of the application using the input data. The system(s) may then send, to a display device, content data representing the states of the application. While providing the application, the system(s) may analyze the input data and/or the content data in order to determine that a criterion associated with an event is satisfied. Based on the determination, the system(s) may determine that the event has occurred. As such, the system(s) may perform one or more actions associated with the event. For example, the system(s) may cause a storing of the content data representing the event, send contextual help associated with the event, or send commentary associated with the application.

Techniques for identifying application events

This disclosure describes, in part, techniques for conserving power on an electronic device. For instance, at given time intervals, the electronic device may be sending input data to a network device and receiving audio data from the network device. The electronic device may then use one or more techniques to determine when to switch from operating in a first mode, where the electronic device sends and/or receives the data, to operating in a second mode, where the electronic device ceases sending and/or receiving the data. For example, the electronic device may make the determination based on an amount of data stored in a buffer, whether the electronic device receives data, using data received from the network device, and/or the like. Based on the determination, the electronic device may switch to the second mode in order to conserve power.

Techniques for conserving power on a device

Techniques for providing network applications are described. For instance, system(s) may install a network application onto a virtual server. While installing the network application, the system(s) may monitor the installation in order to identify events. The system(s) may then generate a first file that includes file events, a second file that includes registry events, and a third file that includes service events. Additionally, the system may copy the software files installed on the virtual server. The system(s) may then generate a software package that includes the files and store the software package on a virtual storage device. After storing the software package, the system(s) may make copies of the software package and store the copies on multiple virtual storage devices. The system(s) may then use the virtual storage devices to install and launch the network application on virtual servers.

Techniques for providing network applications

This disclosure describes, in part, techniques for sharing content associated with network applications. For instance, a user may want to share content for a network application, such as a game stream for a gaming application. As such, system(s) may launch a broadcasting session on a first virtual server and launch the network application on a second virtual server. The first virtual server may then receive content data representing states of the network application from the second virtual server. Additionally, the first virtual server may receive video data representing the user and/or audio data representing user speech from a user device. The first virtual server may then generate broadcasting data using the content data, the video data, and the audio data. After generating the broadcasting data, the system(s) may send the broadcasting data to one or more computing devices associated with a user account.

Techniques for sharing network applications

This disclosure describes, in part, methods and techniques for recreating the outputting of content by an electronic device. For instance, system(s) may process (e.g., encode) first source data in order to generate second source data. The system(s) may then store the second source data in one or more databases and send a copy of the second source data to the electronic device. The electronic device may process (e.g., decode) the second source data in order to output content represented by the second source data. The electronic device may also generate event data representing events that occurred while processing the second source data. The system(s) may receive the event data from the electronic device and use the event data to process the second source data similar to the electronic device. This way, the system(s) are able to output the content similarly to how the electronic device output the content.

Techniques for recreating outputting of content

This disclosure describes, in part, techniques for providing network applications. For instance, system(s) may install a network application on a first virtual server. The system(s) may then receive first data representing events that occurred during a first launching of the network application on the first virtual server. Using the events, the system(s) may generate second data for optimizing a second launching of the network application on a second virtual server and store the second data in one or more databases. As such, after installing the network application on the second virtual server, the system(s) may provide the second virtual server with the second data so that the second virtual server may use the second data to optimize the second launching of the network application. In some examples, using the second data reduces the amount of time that it takes for the second virtual server to launch the network application.

Techniques for forking and merging of electronically presented content items, such as MMO and other video games, are described herein. In particular, a first content item session may be forked to generate a second (forked) content item session. The first and forked content item sessions may then continue to execute and evolve in separate directions from one another. In some examples, a user of the forked content item session may serve as an administrator of the forked content item session and may receive compensation in exchange for serving as an administrator. Additionally, one or more forked or other separate content item sessions may be merged together to form a merged content item session. In some examples, conflicts between merged content item sessions may be identified and resolved based, at least in part, on input from administrators.

This disclosure describes, in part, techniques for controlling network applications. For instance, a remote system may send, over a network, data representing a state of an application to a display device, such as a television. The remote system may then receive, over the network, input data from a control device. The input data may represent one or more inputs received by the control device. Using the input data, the remote system may update the state of the application. The remote system may then send, to the display device, data representing the updated state of the application. In some instances, the remote system may further send, to the control device, audio data representing sound corresponding to the updated state of the application. The control device may synchronize outputting of the sound with the displaying the updated state of the application by the display device.

Systems and devices for controlling network applications

Disclosed are various embodiments that facilitate sending input commands to an application over a network that may have variable latency characteristics. A first computing device sends a request to initiate a remote session with the application being executed by a second computing device. Upon initiation of the remote session, the first computing device receives application output data associated with the application for display via the first computing device. The first computing device may capture an input command associated with a video frame of the application output data being displayed. The input command is transmitted to the second computing device. To account for latency characteristics associated with the network, the second computing device provides the input command to the application after a delay.

Sending application input commands over a network

Techniques for implementation of an entity-component architecture with components having multiple configurations are described herein. In some examples, at least one component within an entity-component architecture of a video game may have multiple different configurations. Each of the multiple configurations may, for example, relate to a different respective deployment context in which the configuration will be deployed. For example, in some cases, the different configurations may be defined for different device types, such as client, server, and others. Additionally, in some cases, the different configurations may be defined for different types of game consoles, and other different software, hardware, and/or contextual attributes. Furthermore, in some cases, configurations may be defined for use during video game development, such as within an editing interface that is used for video game development.

Entity-component architecture with components having multiple configurations

Techniques for virtual area generation and manipulation are described herein. The described techniques may be used, for example, for virtual areas in electronically presented content items, such as video games and other media items. In some examples, one or more interfaces may be provided that allow content developers to provide and specify a set of rules associated with the virtual area. The set of rules may include, for example, terrain rules, object rules, and other rules associated with other aspects of the virtual area. The terrain rules may include rules for generating, distributing, and/or manipulating different types of terrain, such as such as flat and/or buildable space, mountains, valleys, berms, rivers, lakes, oceans, deserts, forests, and many others. The object rules may include rules for generating, distributing, and/or manipulating different types of objects, such as trees, bushes, rocks, snow, grass, fish, birds, animals, people, vehicles, buildings, and others.

Virtual area generation and manipulation

An application is executed in a hosted environment in one or more computing devices. A user may experience difficulty in the application at a particular point in the application. Input commands may be obtained from a stored past session of the application. The stored past session of the application may correspond include another user successfully completing the particular point in the application. The input commands may be provided to the application to help the user get past the difficulty.

Enhancing user experience by presenting past application usage

The disclosed techniques may employ components referred to herein as atoms for computing and maintaining of states. Unlike traditional actors, atoms may be capable of binding to other atoms to form a bound combination of atoms, referred to herein as a molecule. In some examples, while bound to other atoms, an atom may operate in a manner that is different from traditional actors. For example, in some cases, atoms that are bound to one another may be prohibited from concurrently performing different operations on their own separate states. Additionally, bound atoms may be operable to collectively (e.g., synchronously) perform shared operations on their associated states. Furthermore, a shared operation performed on the states of bound atoms may be performed atomically. Also, in some examples, bound atoms may be capable of communicating synchronously with one another and of synchronously accessing each other's states.
