A method displays a first story, which is a republication of a second story and an indication of a previous user interaction with the second story that resulted in creating the first story. The method displays a compressed view of a first user-feedback interface, corresponding to the first story, including affordances for providing user feedback regarding the first story, and displays a compressed view of a second user-feedback interface, corresponding to the second story, including affordances for providing user feedback regarding the second story. The method detects user selection of either the first user-feedback interface or the second user-feedback interface. In response, the method displays an expanded view of the selected user-feedback interface while displaying the compressed view of the user-feedback interface not selected. The expanded view includes the affordances corresponding to the selected user-feedback interface and replaces a portion of the story corresponding to the user-feedback interface not selected.

Methods and systems for providing user feedback

An online system presents a user with a content item including an image and text. The online system overlays the text on the image if it predicts doing so will not render the text unreadable. To predict whether the overlay will render the text unreadable, the online system computes values describing various visual characteristics of a segment of the image on which the text may be overlaid and compares the values to corresponding threshold values. Based on the comparison, the online system predicts a readability of the text if overlaid on the segment. If the predicted readability is at least a threshold readability, the online system overlays the text on the segment of the image and presents the content item to the user with the text overlaid on the image. Otherwise, the online system presents the content item to the user with the text not overlaid on the image.

Determining whether to overlay text included in a content item on an image included in the content item for presentation to a user of an online system

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a touch input within a particular region of a display area of the computing device. The display area presents a user interface (UI) including a number of views organized in a hierarchy. One or more of the views has a gesture recognizer configured to process a touch input detected within the regions of the display area associated with each of the views. Each of the views corresponds to one or more regions of the display area. One or more of the gesture recognizers has one or more intervention conditions. A particular one of the views is a default view to process the touch input. The method also includes evaluating the intervention conditions to identify a particular one of the views from among the number of views to process the touch input.

Systems, methods, and non-transitory computer readable media are configured to maintain a plurality of templates that specify presentation of types of content items in a news feed, each template of the plurality of templates having an identifier. An identifier of a template associated with a content item to be presented in the news feed is received. It is determined whether the identifier of the template associated with the content item matches an identifier of a template of the plurality of templates.

Systems and methods to optimize acquisition of templates for content items in news feed

A client device having a touch-sensitive display displays (i) multiple affordances in a first area of the touch-sensitive display and (ii) a content item in a second area of the touch-sensitive display. The affordances include a user-feedback affordance for providing feedback about the content item. The device detects a first user input at the user-feedback affordance. In response, the device displays a first facial expression superimposed on the content item. Concurrently, the device replaces display of the affordances with a range of facial expressions, each facial expression in the range corresponding to a respective opinion of a range of opinions. The device detects a second user input at a location of a second facial expression in the displayed range of facial expressions. The second facial expression is different from the first facial expression. In response, the device displays the second facial expression superimposed on the content item.

Methods and systems for providing user feedback using an emotion scale

In a client device having one or more processors and memory storing instructions for execution by the one or more processors, graphic icons of one or more users who have provided user feedback for a first content item are displayed. The client device transitions from displaying one or more of the graphic icons to displaying user feedback for the first content item provided by respective users.

Methods and systems for viewing user feedback

In one embodiment, a method includes sending information to display a visual content item; determining an origin position within the visual content item, wherein the origin position is an initial position in the visual content item from which the visual content item is to be scrolled, and wherein the origin position is determined based on a type of an application associated with the visual content item; receiving an initial tilt measurement of a client computing device; receiving a second tilt measurement of the client computing device; and sending information to scroll the visual content item based on the initial tilt measurement and the second tilt measurement.

A first story is displayed at a client device. The first story includes a second story and an indication of a previous user interaction with the second story that resulted in creation of the first story. First and second user-feedback interfaces corresponding to the first story and second story, respectively, are concurrently displayed. The first and second user-feedback interfaces include affordances for providing user feedback regarding their respective stories. User feedback is received for the first story through the first user-feedback interface or for the second story through the second user-feedback interface. When the user feedback is received through the first user-feedback interface, notification is sent to a server to associate the user feedback with the first story, and when the user feedback is received through the second user-feedback interface, notification is sent to the server to associate the user feedback with the second story.

A method is performed at an electronic device that includes a display, a touch-sensitive surface, one or more processors, and memory storing one or more programs. The device displays a user interface of a software application, wherein the user interface includes a plurality of user-interface elements. A first gesture is detected on the touch-sensitive surface while displaying the first user interface, and an initial direction of movement is determined for the first gesture. The device recognizes that the initial direction corresponds to one of a first predefined direction on the touch-sensitive surface or a second predefined direction on the touch-sensitive surface, wherein the first predefined direction is distinct from the second predefined direction. Display of one or more user-interface elements of the plurality of user-interface elements is manipulated in accordance with the corresponding one of the first or second predefined direction.

Touch-based gesture recognition and application navigation

In an electronic device, a cover page of a first content item is displayed and a first swipe gesture in a first direction is detected. In response to detecting the first swipe gesture, the electronic device transitions from displaying the cover page to displaying the first content item. During the transition, a portion of the cover page and a portion of the first content item are simultaneously displayed. After the transitioning, the first content item is displayed, and a second swipe gesture is detected in a second direction substantially opposite to the first direction. In response to detecting the second swipe gesture, the electronic device transitions from displaying the first content item to displaying the cover page, during which the portion of the first content item and the portion of the cover page are simultaneously displayed.

Methods and systems for transitioning between native content and web content

A client device displays a content item and a first facial expression superimposed on the content item. Concurrently with and separately from displaying the first facial expression, a range of emotion indicators is displayed, each emotion indicator of the range of emotion indicators corresponding to a respective opinion of a range of opinions. A first user input is detected at a display location corresponding to a respective emotion indicator of the range of emotion indicators. In response to detecting the first user input, the first facial expression is updated to match the respective emotion indicator.

An item of content includes an embedded content item and one or more portions distinct from the embedded content item. An electronic device simultaneously displays the embedded content item and a first portion of the item of content distinct from the embedded content item in a display area having a display height and a display width. The embedded content item is displayed at a first resolution at which its entire width is contained within the display width of the display area. In response to a first user input indicating selection of the embedded content item, display of the first portion of the item of content ceases, and a first portion of the embedded content item is displayed at a second resolution that is greater than the first resolution, wherein a height of the first portion of the embedded content item at the second resolution equals the display height.

Methods and systems for viewing embedded content

In one embodiment, a method includes sending information to display a visual content; determining a scroll range for the visual content based on dimensions of the visual content; determining an origin position within the visual content from which the visual content is configured to be scrolled, wherein the origin position is determined based on a type of an application associated with the visual content; receiving an initial tilt measurement of a client computing device; receiving a second tilt measurement of the client computing device; determining a progress parameter based on at least the scroll range, the origin position, the initial tilt measurement, and the second tilt measurement; and sending information to scroll the visual content based on the progress parameter.

In a client device having one or more processors and memory storing instructions for execution by the one or more processors, graphic icons of one or more users who have provided user feedback for a first content item are displayed. Each of the graphic icons is displayed in a respective region of a display area. The client device transitions from displaying one or more of the graphic icons to displaying, in the respective regions of the display area corresponding to the one or more of the graphic icons, user feedback for the first content item provided by respective users.

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a touch input within a particular region of a display area of the computing device. The display area presents a user interface (UI) including a number of views and an outside view. Each of the views corresponds to one or more regions of the display area. One or more of the views has a gesture recognizer configured to process a touch input detected within the regions of the display area associated with each of the views. The outside view has a gesture recognizer configured to process the touch input detected within the display area. The views are organized in a hierarchy. The method also includes determining whether a particular one of the views from among the views is set as a modal view.
