Medical devices for accessing the central nervous system, as well as making and using medical devices, are disclosed. An example medical device may include an expandable access sheath having a proximal end region and a distal end region. The expandable access sheath may be designed to shift between a first configuration and an expanded configuration. The expandable access sheath may include a tubular body having one or more axial support members disposed along the tubular body. The medical device may include an expansion member designed to shift the expandable access sheath between the first configuration and the expanded configuration.

Medical device for accessing the central nervous system

Anchors for securing a medical device relative to a body portal, wherein the anchors may accommodate most any implantation trajectory through the portal. Such anchors may further secure the device along any such trajectory without imparting undesirable biasing forces that may shift the device from its intended implanted location. In some embodiments, the anchor is configured as a burr hole anchor including a spherical member contained in a socket of the anchor such that orientation of the spherical member is permitted about three mutually perpendicular axes.

Socketed portal anchors and methods of using same

Medical devices for accessing the central nervous system, as well as making and using medical devices, are disclosed. An example medical device may include an expandable access port. The expandable access port may include a housing having a plurality of tines coupled thereto. A thrust washer may be disposed along the housing. An actuation member may be coupled to the housing. The actuation member may be designed to shift the plurality of tines between a first configuration and an expanded configuration.

Devices, systems, and methods for immobilizing an implanted catheter tip while the catheter is anchored relative to surrounding tissue. In one embodiment, a cannula system is included that incorporates a cinch tube for guiding the catheter to a target site within a body. The cinch tube may define a cinch window to receive therein a cinch member operable to immobilize and occlude the catheter. The cinch tube may also include an elongate opening proximate the cinch window. The elongate opening allows extraction of a portion of the catheter and subsequent severing of the catheter above the cinch window/occlusion site.

Cannula system and method for immobilizing an implanted catheter during catheter anchoring

An implantation system for positioning and aligning an elongate medical device in three-dimensional space. The system may include: a frame member; and first, second, and third legs each having an adjustable length. Each of the first, second, and third legs includes: a first end having a socket segment, wherein the socket segments of each of the first, second, and third legs together define a socket; and a second end connected to the frame member. A spherical member is adapted to be received within the socket such that the spherical member may rotate about a center of rotation defined by the socket, the spherical member having an inner surface defining a bore passing through the spherical member.

Medical device implantation and positioning system

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that can operate both as a conventional multicopter with no wing attached, or, it can operate as a winged multicopter. The detachable wing design used in the invention provides versatility without compromising performance; the wing attachment receptacles add no weight to the wingless multicopter configuration because they also function as the leg receptacles. In one embodiment, the base multicopter configuration is a quad-copter with four propeller drives. Four tubular receptacles, two forward and two aft, provide attachment points for the vertical struts of a detachable rectangular shaped wing, these vertical struts also function as the legs of the multicopter. The wing is fabricated using lightweight struts and rip stop nylon fabric which can be easily folded into a compact shape using quick release pins. In another embodiment, the wing is fabricated using a foam core. In both embodiments, the angle of the detachable wing can be adjusted to optimize lift and drag in the forward thrust, tilted position of the multicopter.

A stepped catheter comprising a distal portion of smaller diameter than a proximal portion, wherein the distal portion defines a flow aperture configured to deliver fluid passing through the catheter from the proximal portion to the flow aperture. The catheter may include a flow restrictor located within a lumen of the catheter at or near the flow aperture. A filter element may also be included and located within the lumen of the catheter at a location upstream of the flow restrictor.

Devices, systems, and methods for immobilizing an implanted catheter tip while a catheter stylet is withdrawn from the catheter. In one embodiment, a cannula system is included that incorporates a catheter retainer securable to an immobilized guide cannula. The retainer may include one or more surfaces that operatively engage the catheter and effectively restrain the catheter relative to a head of the guide cannula. Other embodiments may also include a stylet holder operable to engage the stylet with a consistent and repeatable clamping force that is independent of clinician-applied force.

Anchors for securing a therapy device such as a therapy catheter relative to a burr hole, and systems and methods for using the same. Anchors in accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure may include a connector for securing the therapy catheter to a delivery catheter, wherein the connector is independently and removably attachable to the anchor. The connector may secure the therapy catheter relative to the burr hole and isolate forces that may otherwise tend to disrupt the placement of the therapy catheter.

Body portal anchors and systems

In some embodiments, the anchor is configured as a burr hole anchor including a spherical member contained in a socket of the anchor wherein the socket may be collapsed to lock the spherical member along a particular trajectory.

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) comprising a plurality of propeller drives rigidly mounted to a foldable frame with the motor rotors aligned in a vertical direction to provide a means of vertical takeoffs and landings. The foldable frame mounts a sheet sail at an angle with the horizontal that provides lift during the forward motion and tilt of the UAV. In one embodiment the shape of the sheet sail and frame are triangular with one or two propeller drives being mounted in close proximity to each of the three vertices. In another embodiment, the shape of the sheet sail and frame are triangular with one or two propeller drives being mounted in close proximity to each of the three vertices, and one or two propeller drives being mount in close proximity to the trailing edge of the spine, in between the trailing edge propeller drives. In some embodiments, the frame spars may be comprised of carbon fiber rods and the sheet sail may be comprised of ripstop nylon fabric.
