An electrical charging system configured to wirelessly charge an energy storage device, such as a battery. The charging system includes an off-transducer in electrical communication with an alternating power source and electromagnetically coupled to an on-vehicle transducer connected to the energy storage device. A controller adjusts a variable frequency oscillator within the power transmitter, thereby changing the frequency of the sourced electrical power. The charging system further includes a phase detection circuit in communication with the controller and the off-transducer and configured to determine a phase difference between the alternating voltage and the alternating current supplied by the power source. The controller is configured to adjust the variable frequency oscillator based on the phase difference such that the frequency of the sourced electrical power maintains the phase difference within a desired range.

An electrical charging system configured to charge a battery includes a power transmitter, an energy coupling arrangement, an electrical signal shaping device including a controller, and an alignment means. The arrangement includes a first inductive coil disposed external to the vehicle and a second inductive coil attached with the vehicle. The alignment means communicates with the vehicle to ensure repeatable vehicle positioning so that the second inductive coil is positioned relative to the first inductive coil so that the second inductive coil receives the energy produced by the power transmitter wirelessly transmitted from the first inductive coil. The energy received by the second inductive coil is electrically shaped by the electrical signal shaping device and further transmitted through the electrical signal shaping device as controlled by the controller to charge the battery. Methods for transmitting energy through the electrical charging system to charge the battery are also presented.

A connector handle for an electric vehicle battery charger is provided. The connector handle includes a latch that is operable to a locked position and an unlocked position. The connector handle also includes an electric circuit configured to provide an enable indication and a disable indication. The connector handle also includes an actuator button moveable to a first position where the latch is in the locked position and the electric circuit provides the enable indication, a second position where the latch is in the locked position and the electric circuit provides the disable indication, and a third position where the latch is in the unlocked position and the electric circuit provides the disable indication.

A vehicle seat is disclosed including a seat cushion and a seat back. The vehicle seat includes a plurality of electronic devices secured to both the seat cushion and the seat back. These electronic devices allow the occupant of the vehicle seat to control the features of the vehicle seat that are electronically modified, i.e., position, orientation, temperature, and the activation of lumbar support and/or massage devices, if any. The vehicle seat also includes a plurality of sensors associated with each of the electronic devices. Each of the sensors determines the condition or status of the electronic device to which the sensor is associated. At least one serial bus connects all of the electronic devices and sensors to a single control unit that receives all of the data from the sensors and, depending on the instructions input by the occupant of the vehicle seat, controls the electronic devices. The control unit can be integrated into the occupant position switch assembly. A smart connector is used between each of the sensors, electronic devices and the serial bus. The smart connectors retrieve the portions of the signals being transmitted over the serial bus that are to be utilized by the electronic devices. In addition, the smart connectors also allow the proper flow of data from the sensors along the serial bus to ensure the control unit receives the data.

A programmable turn signal and hazard flasher control system (10, 100) includes a lamp control module (12, 108) coupling a turn signal request unit (14, 106) to a number of turn signal lamps (20-30). The module (12, 108) couples the turn signal request unit (14, 106) to a number of vehicle turn signal lamps (20-26) in a first mode of operation and to a number of vehicle turn signal lamps (20-26) as well as a number of additional turn signal lamps (28, 30) in a second mode of operation to thereby accommodate lighting requirements of a trailer or other towed vehicle or to accommodate different lighting requirements in vehicles of a common vehicle platform. The load current to the turn signal lamps (20-30) in either case flows through a shunt resistor R1, and is controlled by a flasher circuit (54) during normal operation to a first flash rate and during a lamp failure condition to a second faster flash rate. The module (12, 108) further includes a control circuit (62) responsive to an appropriate signal state at a lamp designation control input (34) to provide a predefined load activation signal to the flasher circuit (54) regardless of whether the module (12, 108) is coupled to only a minimum number of vehicle turn signal lamps, or the minimum number of vehicle turn signal lamps as well as a number of additional turn signal lamps.

A motor vehicle has a daytime running light system for providing automatic illumination of a pair of headlamps at reduced intensity. The reduced intensity operation is accomplished by way of a switch mode power converter which operates to provide a daytime running light voltage that is less than the vehicle system voltage normally supplied to the headlamps. The switch mode power converter makes extremely efficient use of the vehicle electrical power by minimizing power dissipation in attaining a lower daytime running light voltage. Furthermore, the daytime running light system is amenable to simple calibration modification to implement varying daytime running light voltage levels in accordance with vehicle system and/or various international requirements.
