Non-whiteware ceramic articles having an increased green strength are prepared from slip compositions containing a polyalkylene polyamine as an additive or a mixture of a polyalkylene polyamine and binder as an additive. An example of such an additive is tetraethylenepentamine or a mixture of tetraethylenepentamine and a styrene butadiene latex.

A method for reducing the consistency of a water and gypsum stucco slurry comprising admixing water, stucco, and an additive, the additive in an amount effective to reduce the consistency of the admixed slurry as compared to a slurry containing only water and stucco, and the additive selected from the group consisting of one or more polyalkylene polyamines having a molecular weight below 1,000.

A casting process for the preparation of whiteware ceramic articles employs a polyalkylene polyamine, such as tetraethylene pentamine, as an additive to increase the casting rate. The additive can be employed, e.g., in slip casting, vacuum casting and pressure casting.
