A tube shielding system prevents pests such as rodents and insects from damaging tubes or pipes, particularly those made of plastics or other soft materials. The tubes are wrapped with a protective barrier that has a pest control layer. The pest control layer a deterrent that could be physical or chemical. Examples of deterrents are steel mesh, sand, peppermint and capsaicin.

A dock leveler includes a pivotally extendable lip coupled to a pivotal deck by way of a front hinge, wherein the structure in the area of the front hinge optimizes the torsional flexibility of the deck; provides a well supported, durable crown (apex angle between an extended lip and the deck); and reduces the part count of the dock leveler. The front hinge includes a deck-hinge member that extends approximately the full width of the deck and is preferably formed from a single sheet of material. A particularly narrow front header or flange disposed along the front edge of the deck reinforces the relatively thin deck plate so that the plate's rigidity more closely matches that of the thicker lip, yet the flange is sufficiently small to allow the deck to twist so that the deck can place the tip of the lip squarely upon a sideways inclined truck bed.

A dock leveling system adapted to be disposed in a pit is disclosed. A hinge member with a hinge pin receiving area and a hinge pin disposed in the hinge member defines a center of rotation. A deck that is rotatable about the hinge pin includes a curved portion with a constant radius and a center of curvature substantially similar to the center of the hinge pin. The curved portion defines an elevation that remains constant as the deck rotates about the hinge pin.

A dock leveler for a truck loading dock includes a pivotal deck that is actuated by an inflatable column assembly. The inflatable column assembly includes a pliable tube that when inflated has a generally vertical cylindrical shape that can provide a heavy deck with substantial columnar support. The shape and orientation of the column assembly is such that the lengths of the pliable tube's seams are minimized. A pliable fabric sheet held in tension against the underside of the deck provides a generally flat, broad surface against which the pliable tube can push as the inflatable column assembly pushes the deck upward. A footed pallet underneath the pliable tube can be banded to the deck during shipment. After installation, the pallet can be readily lifted for cleaning the pit floor underneath the pallet.

Two embodiments of a slope extension are disclosed herein for use with a vehicle restraint. In each embodiment, the vehicle restraint is adapted to releasably secure a parked trailer or other vehicle to an adjacent structure, such as a loading dock, and includes a carriage assembly which is adjustably mounted in proximity to the adjacent structure for movement relative to a roadway, and a restraining member which is operatively attached to the carriage assembly. In operation, each embodiment of the inventive slope extension interacts with the carriage assembly to avoid a &ldquo;dead lock&rdquo; condition wherein the carriage assembly is obstructed from moving downwardly toward the roadway.

Slope extension for vehicle restraints

A restraining member for use with a vehicle restraint for releasably securing a parked vehicle to an adjacent structure is disclosed. The restraining member is pivotally mountable to the vehicle restraint, and is shiftable between a retracted position in which the restraining member is disposed within the recess, and an extended position in which the restraining member is positioned to engage the ICC bar of a parked vehicle. The restraining member comprises a base pivotally mounted to the carriage, a crown, and an offset shank interconnecting the base and the crown. The crown, the shank, and the base each have inner edges, which cooperate to define an open, substantially tetragonally shaped, area sized to receive the ICC bar. The crown and the shank define an engagement portion which is adapted to receive and engage a wide variety of ICC bar sizes.

Two embodiments of a slope extension are disclosed herein for use with a vehicle restraint. A vertically elongate barrier is supported from the carriage and is disposed remotely from the upright loading structure, the barrier being mounted for generally vertical movement with respect to the carriage between an inoperative vehicle-released position wherein the barrier is disclosed below the horizontal portion, and an inoperative vehicle restraining position, wherein the barrier extends vertically a fixed distance above the horizontal portion to define a vehicle bar capture distance along the horizontal portion.
