A method for applying compression to a joint includes providing an intramedullary fixation assembly having a proximal screw member positioned at a proximal end of the intramedullary fixation assembly and a lag screw member positioned at a distal end of the intramedullary fixation assembly. Medullary canals are drilled in a first and second bone and the medullary canals are reamed. The proximal screw member is inserted into the first bone and a drill is used create a dorsal hole in the first bone. The lag screw member is slideably coupled to the dorsal hole and to the proximal screw member and into the second medullary canal. A torque is applied to the lag screw member to apply compression to the joint.

Intramedullary fixation assembly and method of use

Wrists implants and methods are disclosed. A wrist implant can advantageously allow motion with respect to a reconstructed wrist to more closely resemble natural motion. For example, in one aspect, motion can include movement in more than one direction to allow for flexion/extension, rotational, and translational movement. The wrist implant can include a radial implant component and/or a carpal implant component with a bearing component or member disposed therebetween. The radial implant can have a radial articulation surface having at least one variable radius of curvature and/or a tray having a variable width.

Wrist implants and methods

Apparatus and methods are provided to facilitate passage of lacerated ends of a tendon back into and/or through an associated sheath. The method is often necessary to complete repair when lacerated ends of a tendon retract from the associated laceration site in the sheath. The method includes applying respective elastomeric tubes over lacerated ends of the tendon. Each elastomeric tube is preferably made of thin, elastic rubber. The elastomeric tube also prevents fraying and catching of the respective lacerated end during passage into and through the sheath. Multiple threads are preferably engaged with the elastomeric tube. An applicator is provided to slide a respective elastomeric tube over each lacerated end of the tendon. Each elastomeric tube is placed over the respective lacerated end of the tendon by pulling on the associated threads. After the tube is applied, the applicator is removed. The threads, along with suture strands previously placed in the tendon end, are then used to pull the tube and lacerated end into and through the sheath. Once the tendon is passed through its sheath, the tube is removed by pulling it off the end of the tendon using the threads. A second tube may be applied to the other lacerated end of tendon if necessary. The applicator and elastomeric tube or tubes are preferably discarded at the completion of the surgical repair procedure.

Tendon passing device and method

A suture repair system is provided for releasably holding the lacerated end of a tendon, ligament, and similar types of body tissues and precisely guiding placement of one or more sutures therein. The suture repair system preferably provides one or more suture guide paths for placing respective sutures having a selected configuration in the lacerated end. The system preferably includes a single use, disposable holder or clamp assembly. The clamp assembly may also be used as a guide to accurately trim, when necessary, the lacerated end. Once suture placement is completed the clamp assembly may be removed and may be discarded.
