A feed roll and stripper assembly for a rolling mill includes at least one feed roll at each of an entry side and an exit side of a pair of work rolls and a stripper at each of the entry and exit side of the pair of work rolls. Each stripper has a stripper tip. At least one of the strippers or feed rolls are adapted to have an adjustable vertical separation from one of the work rolls, according to the direction of movement of material through the work rolls. The vertical separation of the at least one stripper or feed roll from the one work roll on the entry or exit side is different from the vertical separation of the other at least one stripper or the feed roll on the other of the entry or exit side. Each stripper tip is separated from one of the work rolls.

Feed roll assembly

The invention relates to a roll bending device for the control of profile and flatness in the rolling of metal plates or strips. In particular the invention relates to the well known principle of roll bending by using hydraulic cylinders to modify the load distribution between rolls of a rolling mill stand and a rolled stock e.g. a metal plate or a strip in order to control the profile and flatness of the metal plate or strip. A special design to allow safe roll bending even at large roll gauges is presented. The new design allows safe operation even at large roll gauges and high side loads.

Roll bending device

The invention relates to the design of multiple piece rolls, in particular backup rolls, for the use in metal rolling. The roll comprises a main part with a center bore for the removal of center defects or flaws arising from the manufacturing process, e.g., from casing or forging and at least an end part, whereas the end part has no center bore or a center bore with a diameter smaller than the bore diameter of the main part.

Multiple piece roll

The invention is an apparatus for cutting metal sheet having two rotatable drums, wherein the metal sheet passes between the drums for cutting. Each of the drums has a cutting blade moved into and out of cutting position by an axial actuator rod. The cutting blade includes two sets of rollers bearing against one of a pair of profiled side surfaces of the axial actuator rod.

Shearing metal strip

An apparatus for coiling successive lengths of metal strip onto mandrels changes the strip path from a path leading to the mandrel currently being wound to a path to a new mandrel when the current strip ends and a new strip appears. The new mandrel has a mandrel strip guide that includes a chain of driven mandrel guide rollers located around the new mandrel in its initial position to receive the leading edge of a new length of strip and guide it around the mandrel. Adjacent rollers in the chain have interlocking grooves and flanges. Similar chains of rollers are used to guide the strip between the shears and the mandrels. The new mandrel is positioned in an initial position such that the strip path to it is a straight path, and the mandrels are mounted on a carousel which moves that mandrel to a second position such that the strip path to it is an angled path, the first segment of which is common with the first part of the straight strip path. A tail restraining unit holds the tail of the old strip onto its mandrel.
