An example system may include a processor and a non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions executable by the processor to determine, during an imaging operation by an imaging component of a printing device, whether a print queue, supplied by the imaging component, will be depleted by a printing component of the printing device prior to a completion of the imaging operation; and adjust, based on the determination, a media feed rate of the printing component.

Media feed rate adjustments

A number of monochrome pages printed by a print system in a color mode and a total number of pages printed by the print system are monitored. A ratio of the number of monochrome pages printed by the print system in the color mode to the total number of pages printed by the print system is determined. The print system is switched between the color mode and a monochrome mode of the print system mode based on the ratio so as to reduce color cartridge wear of the print system and/or so as to reduce transitions between the color mode and the monochrome mode while printing monochrome pages.

Ratio-based adaptive switching technique

A server device receives a request over a network for settings for a printing device having an identifier. The server device determines whether the settings for the printing device were previously received from the printing device and responsively saved by the server device, based on the identifier of the printing device. In response to determining that the settings for the printing device were previously received from the printing device and responsively saved by the server device, the server device transmits the settings over the network to reconfigure the printing device according to the settings.

According to examples, an apparatus may include a processor and a memory on which are stored computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, may cause the processor to determine a property of dust based on information associated with the dust in a printing device. The processor may classify the dust according to the determined property of the dust and may determine a predicted failure mode associated with the dust classification. The processor may output an instruction associated with the predicted failure mode.

Example implementations relate to first page out reduction. For example, a system according to the present disclosure may include a host computing device including a processor. The system may further include a printer coupled to the host computing device. The processor may determine a distribution of print content relative to a leading edge of a page of print medium. The processor may further determine a first threshold fuser temperature in response to the determination of the distribution of print content.

An example printer includes a non-transitory computer-readable medium. The printer also includes a boot engine communicatively coupled to the non-transitory computer-readable medium. The boot engine is to load a boot image into a first portion of the non-transitory computer-readable medium. The boot image includes data from an operational state of an operating system. The printer includes a configuration engine. The configuration engine is to program a second portion of the non-transitory computer-readable medium while the boot engine is loading the boot image.

An example system includes a client interface to receive a print job from a client device, wherein the print job includes a user identifier (UID) and a current user location. The example system further includes a controller having an adaptive caching portion to determine that the current user location is a new user location for the UID, identify at least one printer identifier (PID) associated with the new user location, and associate the UID with the new user location and the at least one PID. The system further includes a printer interface to adaptively cache the print job in its entirety at least at one printer corresponding to the at least one PID.

In one example, a printer with parallel/serial operational sequencing includes an engine control unit and an image processor unit each coupled to a set of sub-systems. A network unit is coupled to the image processor unit to monitor network packets while the engine control unit, the set of sub-systems, and the image processor unit are in sleep states. When a first predetermined packet is received, the network unit signals with a first modulation signal that the image processor unit is to awaken first before the image processor unit determines whether to awaken the engine control unit and any of the set of sub-systems. When a second predetermined packet is received, the network unit signals with a second modulation signal that the image processor unit, the engine control unit, and a portion of the set of sub-systems are to awaken at the same time.

Parallel/serial operational sequencing

According to an example, a printer may receive an instruction to print a print job of a user and determine parameters of the print job. The printer may perform heuristic analysis of the print job based on the parameters of the print job and previously collected printing heuristic statistics of the user and adjust user printer configurations based on the heuristic analysis.

Heuristic-based acoustic emission and energy conservation

A print system with a ratio-based adaptive switching technique includes a printing unit to print an image on a recording medium in a color mode or a monochrome mode. A number (cM) of monochrome pages printed in the color mode and a total number (pN) of printed pages are monitored. A ratio cM/pN that is indicative of excess cartridge wear of the print system is determined. Print-job performance and cartridge wear of the print system are optimized based on the determined ratio using a first and second threshold.

Example implementations relate to fast page first print optimization. For example, a system according to the present disclosure, may include a host driver coupled to a printing device. The host driver may send a command to the printing device indicating implementation of a fast page first feature, implement a page description language (PDL) on the printing device that defines print parameters for a print job on a first command of each page of the print job. Moreover, in response to the definition of the print parameters, and during or prior to startup of a print engine on the printing device, the host driver may determine if a print optimization of the fast page first feature would reduce a first page out time (FPOT) of the print job.

A printing device tracks characteristics regarding duplex print jobs received and printed at the printing device. The print device adjusts the start time of a duplex print engine of the printing device following receipt of a new duplex print job at the printing device to print the new duplex print job, based on the tracked characteristics, to optimize a balance between print job performance and print engine wear.

A disabler circuit is disclosed for disabling a function of a device. The disabler circuit includes a switch electrically coupled to an input voltage and to ground. The disabler circuit further includes a fuse electrically coupled a series with the switch between the input voltage and ground. The disabler circuit also includes a resistor electrically coupled and parallel with the switch and in series with the fuse between the input voltage and ground. If the switch is off, then current flows from the input voltage to ground through the resistor and the fuse and the current is too small to blow the fuse. If the switch is on, then current flows from the input voltage to ground through the switch and the fuse and is large enough to blow the fuse. In specific embodiment, the disabler circuit is part of a formatter in a printer to disable a duplexing function of the printer.

An image-formation device is disclosed which includes an image-formation mechanism and a controller. The image-formation mechanism is capable of forming images on media. The controller is capable of dynamically determining a first-page out (FPO) time for the image-formation mechanism based on at least changing characteristics of the image-formation mechanism.
