Turbine engine including an engine starter assembly

A turbine engine having an engine core having a compression section, combustion section, a turbine section, and an engine drive shaft. The turbine engine includes an air turbine starter having a housing defining an air flow passage. The air turbine starter can operate in a start-up mode and a shut-down mode. The turbine engine further includes a gearbox and a drive unit.

The engine core has a fan section, a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section in serial flow arrangement. The gear train can couple to an output shaft via at least a carrier. The air turbine starter can include at least a first bearing assembly and a second bearing assembly to rotatably support the drive shaft and the output shaft.

Air turbine starter

The engine drive shaft operably couples the fan section, the compressor section and the turbine section. The AGB and the ATS are operably coupled to the engine drive shaft.

The gear train can couple to an output shaft via at least a carrier. The air turbine starter can include at least a first bearing assembly and a second bearing assembly to rotatably support one or more of the drive shaft, the carrier, or the output shaft.

A starter/generator system that includes a first and second electric machine. The first electric machine has a first rotor and a first stator where the first rotor is adapted to receive kinetic energy and the first stator includes a first set of windings. The second electric machine has a second rotor rotatable and a second stator. The second stator is fixed relative to the first stator and the second stator includes a second set of windings.

A method for slow starting a reciprocating engine having a crankshaft, piston, and piston chamber is disclosed. The method includes applying a force to the crankshaft, sensing an engine characteristic, and determining if an error or fault is present in the engine.

Systems and methods for starting an engine on an aircraft are provided. One example aspect of the present disclosure is directed to an integrated starter for starting an engine on an aircraft. The integrated starter includes an air turbine starter. The integrated starter includes a starter air valve integrated with the air turbine starter. The integrated starter includes a controller configured to control the starter air valve. The starter air valve can be movable between a first position and at least a second position to regulate the flow of fluid into the air turbine starter. An output torque of the air turbine starter can be dependent at least in part on the flow of fluid into the air turbine starter.

Integrated starter for aerial vehicle

Systems and methods for detecting an issue with a starter are provided. One example aspect of the present disclosure is directed to a method for detecting an anomaly with an air turbine starter. The method includes receiving, by one or more controllers, data indicative of a frequency associated with an integrated air turbine starter from one or more sensors located on a stationary portion of the air turbine starter to monitor a rotating portion of the air turbine starter. The method includes determining, by the one or more controllers, an anomaly associated with the integrated air turbine starter based at least in part on the data indicative of the frequency. The method includes providing, by the one or more controllers, a notification indicative of the anomaly associated with the integrated air turbine starter.

Starter issue detection

A laser transmitter adapted for use in small spaces such as pipes and sewers includes a housing having two exit windows positioned in generally orthogonal planes. The laser transmitter includes a leveling mechanism that is capable of directing a collimated beam through a select one of the two exit windows, in a generally horizontal direction at a specified grade irrespective of whether the laser transmitter is oriented generally horizontally or generally vertically.

Interchangeable horizontally and vertically laser suitable for use in small spaces

An arrangement for use in a light beam projection device for adjusting an orientation of a projected light beam is disclosed. The arrangement comprises a base frame, a support platform adapted to set the orientation of the projected light beam, and a pivot member pivotally mounting the support platform relative to the base frame. A tilting motor is provided to the base frame and has a pair of output shafts influencing the orientation of the support platform, whereby rotation of the output shafts in a first direction tilts the support platform only along a first axis, and rotation of the output shafts in a second direction tilts the support platform only along a second axis. A power supply is provided for driving the tilting motor.
