A removable manifold for a medical/surgical waste collection system. The manifold is dimensioned to be mounted to a receiver integral with the system. The manifold includes at least one tube through which waste is drawn into a manifold cage. The tube extends through an inlet port into a void space internal to the manifold cage at an angle. The tube exits the manifold cage and is centered along an axis that is off center to the longitudinal axis of the manifold cage where it engages a complementary valve internal to the receiver. The valve regulates flow between the receiver and the down line components of the waste collection system. The valve is normally closed. When the manifold is fitted to the receiver the tube engages the valve and rotation of the manifold moves the valve to the open position allowing fluid flow from the manifold and receiver to the downstream components of the system.

Rather than completely surrounding the interior portion, the annular perimeter is instead interrupted by a suction conduit () defined by a suction conduit () separating a first lobe () and a second lobe (). The suction conduit () intersects the annular perimeter such that the first lobe is disposed interior of the annular perimeter while the second lobe is disposed exterior to the annular perimeter. The canister lid can further include one or more ports () extending from the interior portion. A canister () can include a valve () and can optionally be coupled to a hub mount vacuum source () or a hub mount stand ().

Suction canister and corresponding systems and methods

A non-inflating flexible warm air distribution manifold that attaches to the patient side of patient gown. This manifold is configured to receive warmed air the of the warm-air receiving orifice and to distribute the warm air over a wide area of the patient side of the gown. By one approach the manifold comprises a flexible baffle. This baffle can be disposed on the patient side of the gown office proximal (in fact, opposite) the warm-air receiving orifice. The baffle has two or more sides that are secured to the gown and two or more sides that are not secured to the gown. Warm air entering the gown through the warm-air receiving orifice can readily pass through the sides that are not secured to the gown while the warm air entering the gown is largely impeded from passing through the sides that are secured to the gown.
