A system and method for determining an efficiency of gas extraction. A chamber allows inflow and outflow of the drilling fluid. An amount of gas extracted from a drilling fluid flowing through the chamber at a constant rate during a dynamic process is measured. A dissolution curve is obtained indicative of a gas remaining in the chamber after the dynamic process. An amount drawn from the chamber during a static process subsequent to the dynamic process is measured. An amount of gas from the drilling fluid during the static process is determined from a difference between the amount of gas drawn from the chamber during the static process and an amount of gas indicated by the dissolution curve. The gas extraction efficiency is determined from a ratio of the amount of gas extracted during the static process and the amount of gas extracted during the dynamic process.

Apparatus and methods for determining in real-time efficiency of extracting gas from drilling fluid at surface

Systems and methods for determining fluid rheological characteristics of a fluid used in a subsurface operation are provided. The methods include measuring temperature, pressure, and at least one of a flow rate and a flow velocity of the fluid in a first fluid circuit. A model is based on the temperature, the pressures, and the flow rate or flow velocity. The fluid rheological characteristic of the fluid in a second fluid circuit is determined by measuring a temperature and flow rate and/or flow velocity in the second fluid circuit. The rheological characteristic of the fluid is calculated based on the model employing the temperature and the flow rate/flow velocity of the second fluid circuit.

Methods and systems for monitoring drilling fluid rheological characteristics

Examples of techniques for monitoring and controlling the pH of a drilling fluid are disclosed. In one example implementation, a system may include a first sensor to sense a first pH-value and an associated first temperature of the drilling fluid prior to being heated by a drilling fluid heater and a second sensor to sense a second pH-value and an associated second temperature of the drilling fluid subsequent to being heated by the drilling fluid heater. The system may also include a controller comprising a memory having computer readable instructions and a processing device for executing the computer readable instructions. The computer readable instructions include receiving the first pH-value and first temperature from the first sensor, receiving the second pH-value and second temperature from the second sensor, and determining an amount of additive to add to the drilling fluid to maintain a desired pH-value at the second temperature.

Drilling fluid pH monitoring and control

Moisture separation systems and condensation devices for gas extracted from drilling fluids while drilling are provided. The condensation devices include a body having a first end and a second end and an exterior wall defining an interior surface, an interior passage providing a connection from the first end to the second end, and an angled support path within the interior passage, the angled support path extending from the interior surface and angled with respect to gravity. The angled support path is configured to direct a condensate away from the interior surface by the operation of gravity.

Examples of techniques for monitoring and controlling the pH of a drilling fluid are disclosed. In one example implementation, a method may include monitoring, by a first sensor, a first pH-value of the drilling fluid prior to the drilling fluid being heated. The method may further include monitoring, by a second sensor, a second pH-value of the drilling fluid subsequent to the drilling fluid being heated. The method may further include determining, by a processing system, an amount of additive being added to the drilling fluid to alter the pH of the drilling fluid.

In one aspect, a method for determining amount of selected gas extracted from a drilling fluid during drilling of a wellbore and total amount of gas present in such fluid is disclosed, that in one embodiment may include; flowing the drilling fluid through a gas trap at a constant flow rate; extracting the selected gas released from the drilling fluid flowing through gas trap and determining therefrom the amount of the extracted gas from the drilling fluid; trapping a constant volume of the drilling fluid in the gas trap; extracting the selected gas released from the constant volume and determining therefrom the total amount of the selected gas present in the drilling during drilling of the wellbore. The method further includes determining the efficiency of the gas extraction process from the amount of the selected gas extracted from the fluid flowing through the gas tap and the total amount of the gas in the constant volume.
