Tunable filters, cancellers, and duplexers based on passive mixers. A tunable delay cell includes passive mixers electrically coupled together for receiving an input signal and outputting a delayed signal, each passive mixer comprising a plurality of mixer switches. The tunable delay includes a control circuit for providing, to each passive mixer, a respective plurality of local oscillator (LO) signals, one to each mixer switch of each passive mixer. The control circuit is configured to vary the LO signals to cause a target frequency band of the input signal to be delayed by a target delay time in propagating through the passive mixers.

Tunable filters, cancellers, and duplexers based on passive mixers

Embodiments of a code modulated phased-array interferometer are described. In one embodiment, a code modulated phased-array interferometer includes a phased array having a plurality of receiver elements that receive a plurality of received signals. A code multiplexer multiplexes each of the plurality of received signals to generate a plurality of code multiplexed signals, and a combiner combines the plurality of code multiplexed signals into a combined signal. After other processing for signal reception, a code demultiplexer demultiplexes the combined baseband signal, and a complex correlator correlates unique pairs of baseband signals to generate a plurality of visibility products. Finally, the plurality of visibility products are transformed to generate an image. The concepts described herein may be relied upon to reconfigure or repurpose a phased-array receiver to achieve imaging.

Code-modulated phased-array interferometric imaging

Methods, systems, and computer readable media for a tunable filter employing feedforward cancellation are disclosed. According to one aspect, the subject matter described herein includes a tunable transmissive filter that includes a splitter for splitting an input signal into a first signal and a second signal, a first modifier circuit for modifying a characteristic of the first signal to produce a modified first signal, a second modifier circuit for using feedforward cancellation to modify a characteristic of the second signal to produce a modified second signal, the second modifier circuit including an N-path filter, N being an integer greater than 0; and a combiner for combining the modified first signal and the modified second signal to produce a filtered output signal having a bandpass response.

Tunable filter employing feedforward cancellation

This invention describes circuits and methods which can allow multiple radar receiver chips to be adjusted to have very low phase offset between them. Multiple receiver chips are used in frequency-modulated carrier-wave (FMCW) radar systems for beamforming to enable angle-of-arrival measurements. FMCW radar systems are widely used in collision-avoidance and adaptive cruise control systems in vehicles, which today are operating in the 76-81 GHz frequency band. In a multi-receiver system, each receive element must have a well-controlled phase response which can be calibrated over process, voltage, and temperature. Without calibration, phase offsets can result in erroneous beamforming receiver measurements. The inventive circuit provides a technique to adjust the phase of multiple receivers across multiple chips using a single local oscillator reference and built-in-test circuitry which consist of phase shifters, a multi-frequency nonlinear phase detection circuit, and power coupling circuits.

Phase calibration circuit and method for multi-channel radar receiver

A phased-array receiver that may be effectively implemented on a silicon substrate. A receiver includes multiple radio frequency (RF) front-ends, each configured to receive a signal with a given delay relative to the others such that the gain of the received signal is highest in a given direction. The receiver also includes a power combination network configured to accept an RF signal from each of the RF front-ends and to pass a combined RF signal to a down-conversion element, where the power distribution network includes a combination of active and passive components. Each RF front-end includes a phase shifter configured to delay the signal in accordance with the given direction and a variable amplifier configured to adjust the gain of the signal.

Phased-array transceiver for millimeter-wave frequencies

An apparatus and method to control signal phase in a radio device includes an analog phase rotator that accepts differential in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) inputs, connected in two differential pairs. The analog phase rotator is driven by a local oscillator and is configured to control a phase of the local oscillator's output. A phase error determination module is configured to determine phase error information based on received I and Q (IQ) signal values. A phase correction module is configured to derive from the received IQ signal values a correction signal and apply the correction signal to the phase rotator in a path of the local oscillator.

Apparatus and method for signal phase control in an integrated radio circuit

An apparatus and method to control signal phase in a radio device includes a phase rotator configured to control a phase of a local oscillator. A phase error determination module is configured to determine phase error information based on received in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) (IQ) signal values. A phase correction module is configured to derive from the received IQ signal values a correction signal and apply the correction signal to the phase rotator in a path of the local oscillator.

A system and method is shown for receiving microwave/millimeter-wave signals. The system and method are balanced and can be effectively implemented on a silicon substrate using single pole double throw switches.

Compact imaging receiver architecture

A staged rocket apparatus includes first and second stages connected by a releasable connector. A plurality of pressurized gas struts are connected between the first and second stages and provide a separating force urging the first and second stages apart. The gas struts are held in a telescopingly collapsed first position by the releasable connector. The separating force is maintained at a minimum value so long as the releasable connector holds the struts in their first position. When the releasable connector is disconnected the separating force increases due to gas flow through a metering passage having a progressively increasing flow area from a high pressure chamber to a low pressure chamber.

A phased-array transmitter and receiver that may be effectively implemented on a silicon substrate. The transmitter distributes to front-ends, and the receiver combines signals from front-ends, using a power distribution/combination tree that employs both passive and active elements. By monitoring the power inputs and outputs, a digital control is able to rapidly provide phase and gain correction information to the front-ends. Such a transmitter/receiver includes a plurality of radio frequency (RF) front-ends and a power splitting/combining network that includes active and passive components configured to distribute signals to/from the front-ends.

The multilayer circuit carrier includes a first layer and a second layer. The first signal transmission line is on the surface of the first layer. The second signal transmission line is on the surface of the second layer. The signal line transition element passes through the first layer and the second layer, and has a first signal terminal and a second signal terminal. The first impedance transformer is on the surface of the first layer and electrically connected between the first signal transmission line and the first signal terminal. The second impedance transformer is on the surface of the second layer and electrically connected between the second signal transmission line and the second signal terminal.

A differential cross-coupled power combiner in one aspect comprises a plurality of inputs, an output, a plurality of differential transmission lines each coupled between a corresponding one of the inputs and the output, and at least one set of additional differential transmission lines arranged in series between any two of the inputs. First and second ones of the additional differential transmission lines in the set are coupled to one another using a cross-coupling arrangement. Other aspects of the invention provide a differential cross-coupled power divider, communication system receivers and transmitters incorporating respective power combiners and dividers, and integrated circuit implementations of power combiners and dividers.
