A method and apparatus can include: a delivery tool having an insertion mandrel; an implant having a distal segment coupled to a proximal segment, the proximal segment having a proximal segment upper and a proximal segment lower, the distal segment having a distal segment upper and a distal segment lower, the implant including: a straight configuration based on the insertion mandrel being extended through the proximal segment and the distal segment, and a curved configuration based on the insertion mandrel being retracted from the distal segment; and an expansion mandrel configured for insertion into the implant, the implant including an expanded configuration based on the expansion mandrel being inserted between the proximal segment upper and the proximal segment lower, and being inserted between the distal segment upper and the distal segment lower.

A spinal fusion system method and apparatus can include: providing segments including a first segment and a second segment; and coupling the first segment to the second segment with a flexible member, the flexible member configured to have a deformable state based upon a temperature of the flexible member being below a transition temperature range or based upon a stress being applied to the flexible member, and the flexible member configured to enter a shape-set state from the deformable state based on the temperature of the flexible member rising above the transition temperature range, or based upon the stress being removed from the flexible member and the temperature of the flexible member being above the transition temperature range.

Shape-memory spinal fusion system

Apparatus and method used to reduce the movement between vertebrae or fractured bones. The implantable device can be deformed from its shape-set configuration for ease of deployment and return to a pre-set shape upon completion of deployment. The apparatus can serve to stabilize fractured bones or as a distraction device and support structure between vertebrae. Device may be made of a material with shape memory and superelastic properties which facilitate the method of implantation. The pre-set shape of the device may include dimensions/geometries which are similar to the natural curvature of the human spine or bone without the use of hinging or connection between multiple pieces. Once deployed, the device can serve to constrain the flow of bone growth material between the inside and outside of the device.

Memory material implant system and methods of use

Bone fixation methods and devices with an elongate body having a longitudinal axis and having a flexible state and a rigid state, a plurality of grippers, a rigid hub connected to the elongated body, and an actuator operably connected to the grippers to deploy the grippers from a first shape to an expanded second shape. One method can include inserting a bone fixation device into an intramedullary space of the bone to place at least a portion of an elongate body of the fixation device in a flexible state on one side of the fracture and at least a portion of a rigid hub on another side of the fracture, and operating an actuator to deploy a plurality of grippers of the fixation device to engage an inner surface of the intramedullary space to anchor the fixation device to the bone.

Fracture fixation device, tools and methods

A bone fixation device is provided with an elongate body having a longitudinal axis and having a flexible state and a rigid state, a plurality of grippers disposed at longitudinally spaced locations of the elongated body, a curved rigid hub connected to the elongated body, and an actuator operably connected to the grippers to deploy the grippers from a first shape to an expanded second shape. Methods of repairing a fracture of a bone are also disclosed. One such method comprising inserting a bone fixation device into an intramedullary space of the bone to place at least a portion of an elongate body of the fixation device in a flexible state on one side of the fracture and at least a portion of a curved rigid hub on another side of the fracture, and operating an actuator to deploy a plurality of grippers of the fixation device to engage an inner surface of the intramedullary space to anchor the fixation device to the bone.

A valve is described for loading a sample at low pressure and injecting said sample into a high pressure stream, and for priming or purging of a high pressure pump. Also described is a multi-route selection valve which allows the selection of alternate flow routes through an analyzing instrument. Both valves have a rotor (11) that can pivot about an axis (13) and at the interface (12) the rotor creates a fluid tight seal against the stator (10). The stator has a common port and n peripheral ports where n is the maximum number of peripheral ports equaling an odd integer greater than or equal to 5. The rotor has a lateral face which is comprised of a distribution channel (7) and (n+1)/2-1 switching channels (8,9). The distribution channel (7) connects the common stator port (1) independently to each of the n peripheral ports (2-6). The switching channels (8,9) each span circumferentially through an arc circle of angle 360/n degrees (17). Switching channels (8) and (9) communicate flow between a plurality of adjacent peripheral stator ports as the rotor turns.
