Analyzing solid components in the return line of a borehole can be accomplished by implementing a bar or disc in the return line. As solid components pass by, they will generate an acoustic wave on impact. In another aspect, solid components can be directed to a shaker system where the solid components will impact a soundboard. The acoustic waves can be captured, such as by a microphone or transducer. The acoustic waves can be processed and transformed into acoustic data. A machine learning system can use previously trained models to determine the solid component parameters using the acoustic data. The parameters can include the size, shape, composition, density, softness, wettability, and other parameters of the solid components. These parameters can then be used as inputs to users or other borehole systems, such as a well site controller to improve drilling operations or to identify the need to implement corrective actions.

Methods and compositions for enhancing integrity and thermal conductivity of wellbores in geothermal operations

A method including forming a hydrophobic film on one or more surfaces as part of a geothermal operation in which a circulating fluid comprising water is injected into an injection well, absorbs heat, and is recovered from a production well prior to extraction of at least a portion of the heat therefrom and recycle of the circulating fluid back to the or another injection well.

Methods of forming hydrophobic surfaces for enhancing performance of geothermal operations

Green hydrogen and solid carbon can be produced by reacting captured methane with a catalyst in a reaction chamber. A liquid base fluid can form a continuous phase within the reaction chamber with a plurality of liquid metal carrier droplets dispersed in the base fluid. The catalyst can be nano-sized particles that can coat the surfaces of the carrier droplets. Agitation can be supplied to the reaction chamber to maintain dispersion of the liquid metal carrier droplets and increase contact of the methane and catalyst particles. The reaction temperature can be less than the temperature required for water electrolysis or steam methane reforming processes. The green hydrogen and solid carbon can be used as a power source for wellsite equipment in the form of fuel cells to generate electricity or power or used to charge batteries.

Using converted hydrogen and solid carbon from captured methane to power wellbore equipment

A method for strengthening a subterranean formation is disclosed herein. A method of strengthening a subterranean formation includes: introducing a first fluid into the subterranean formation, wherein the first fluid includes polyvalent cations; and introducing a second fluid into the subterranean formation, wherein the second fluid includes a dissolved silicate in an aqueous-base fluid; wherein the dissolved silicate reacts with the polyvalent cations in the subterranean formation to form a reaction product including precipitated silicate in the subterranean formation.

Subterranean drilling and completion in geothermal wells

Techniques of the present disclosure relate to downhole perforation operations using fluid containing hollow spheres. A method comprising: disposing a perforating apparatus in a volume of hollow particles in a wellbore; and detonating the perforating apparatus to collapse a portion of the hollow particles to increase flow through at least one perforation resulting from a detonation.
