A first polymer latex and second polymer latex can be mixed to form a dried primer layer on a substrate to adhere patterned materials having fine lines. The first polymer latex comprises a first polymer and a first surfactant such that a dried coating of the first polymer latex has a surface polarity of at least 50%. The second polymer latex comprises a second polymer and a second surfactant such that a dried coating of the second polymer latex has a surface polarity of less than or equal to 27%. Moreover, a dried coating of the mixture has a surface polarity of at least 15% and up to and including 50%. Primed substrates are useful for preparing electrically-conductive articles having electrically-conductive fine lines directly on a dried primer layer by applying a patterned material to a substrate. Such articles can be used as touch screen displays in various electronic devices.

An imaging element is disclosed comprising a support, an imaging layer, and an outermost protective layer on at least one side of the support which comprises a lubricant and an additive which is immiscible with and more surface active than the lubricant, wherein the lubricant is present in an amount of at least 5 mg/m,and the additive is present in an amount of at least 25 wt percent relative to that of the lubricant, the amount of additive being effective to increase the coefficient of friction for the outermost layer after coating and drying thereof relative to that obtained in the absence of the additive material. Imaging elements comprising highly lubricated protective outermost layers in accordance with the invention advantageously provide increased scratch and wear resistance, while the presence of an additive which is immiscible with and more surface active than the lubricant surprisingly has been found to increase the coefficient of friction to provide good manufacturability of the imaging element.

The present invention is directed towards a method of forming a base for an imaging element, which includes providing a support, coating a composition which contains active-hydrogen containing polymers and tris(alkoxycarbonylamino)triazine on a side of the support, and drying the coating composition to form a layer. The present invention is also directed towards a method of forming an imaging element which comprises such a base, which includes the additional step of coating and drying an imaging layer on a side of the support. The invention is further directed towards bases and imaging elements comprising a layer on a side of a support comprising active-hydrogen containing polymers cross-linked with a tris(alkoxycarbonylamino)triazine. In accordance with the invention, a tris(alkoxycarbonylamino)triazine crosslinking agent is employed, which unlike traditional melamine resins, does not emit formaldehyde as a by-product of the crosslinking reaction. This freedom from formaldehyde formation provides an improvement in the manufacturing process because it eliminates the health concerns regarding exposure to formaldehyde and, when the imaging element is a photographic element, permits the preparation of crosslinked coatings that do not adversely effect the sensitometric response of the photographic product.

The present invention is a photographic element which includes a support, at least one silver-halide emulsion layer superposed on the support and a processing-solution-permeable protective overcoat overlying the silver halide emulsion layer. The processing-solution-permeable overcoat is composed of a polyurethane-containing component having acid functionalities wherein the polyurethane-containing component is an interpenetrating network further comprising at least two polymers, including at least one vinyl polymer and at least one urethane polymer. Suitably, a water-soluble polymer is also present in the overcoat. The present invention is also directed to a method of making a photographic print involving developing the photographic element in an alkaline developer solution.

The present invention is a photographic element having a support, at least one silver halide emulsion layer superposed on the support, at least one electrically conductive layer superposed on the support and a protective overcoat superposed on the support. The electrically conductive layer is composed of an electrically conductive agent and a binder. The processing solution permeable overcoat is composed of a urethane-vinyl copolymer having acid functionalities wherein a weight ratio of the urethane in the copolymer comprises from 20 to 100 percent and a weight ratio of the vinyl in the copolymer comprises from 0 to 80 percent. The present invention is a method of making a photographic element which includes providing an photographic element having a support, a silver halide emulsion layer superposed on the support and a processing solution permeable protective overcoat overlying the silver halide emulsion layer. The processing solution permeable overcoat is composed of a urethane-vinyl copolymer having acid functionalities wherein a weight ratio of the urethane in the polymer comprises from 20 to 100 percent and a weight ratio of the vinyl in the polymer comprises from 0 to 80 percent. The photographic element is developed in a developer solution having a pH greater than 7 and the processing solution permeable overcoat is fused.
