A gravel packing system featuring pressure actuated sliding sleeve valves mounted to an exterior annulus around a blanking pipe for screen sections is disclosed. An internal sliding sleeve valve is provided for subsequent closure of access through the screens. The presence of the annulus between the blanking pipe and the screen permits a backup access through perforating the blanking pipe while not damaging the screen. The sliding sleeve valves that are mounted internally and externally on the blanking pipe are removable apart from the screen section that already has gravel packed around it, if they fail to operate and need repair.

Downhole zone isolation system

A side-pocket gas lift mandrel having tapered end caps threaded onto the ends of the mandrel with metal-to-metal sealing threads. The thickness of each made up thread set is the same as the thickness of the small end of each end cap, resulting in a mandrel having the same outside diameter as if the end caps were welded on, without sacrificing any inside diameter in the small ends of the end caps, compared to a welded mandrel.

Gas lift mandrel

A downhole well valve having a variable area orifice ( ) is flow area adjusted by a sliding sleeve ( ) that is axially shifted along a tubular housing ( ) interior in a finite number of increments. A hydraulic actuator ( ) displaces a predetermined volume of hydraulic fluid with each actuator stroke. An actuator displaced volume of fluid shifts the flow control sleeve by one increment of flow area differential. An indexing mechanism ( ) associated with the sleeve provides a pressure value respective to each increment in the increment series.

Downhole flow control devices

Several downhole flow control devices are disclosed which are meterable and are also capable of shutting of a particular zone in a well. The several embodiments include a multiple valve body, a toroidal inflatable valve, and a series of related choke systems. The downhole flow control choke mechanisms each include a downhole electronics package to provide programming or decision making capacity as well as motor actuation systems. Each choke mechanism also includes a system whereby the device can be converted to manual operation and actuated by a conventional shifting tool.

A structure and technique is disclosed to allow passing control lines, conduits or cables of all sorts through a downhole tool. The assembly provides for passage of the conduit or cable through and into the bore of the downhole tool, protected by an internal carrier. The end connections are assembled without any twisting force applied to the cable or conduit. The end connections resist torque. A jam nut on either end provides one seal, and internal seals are used against the mandrel of the downhole tool to further provide pressure isolation where the cable or conduit enters the tool body or exits. Tensile loads are passed through the tool body rather than the cable or conduit. There is complete pressure isolation between the conduit and both the tubing and the annulus.

Conduit and cable bypass for downhole tools

Computer control and sensory information are combined with gas lift valve having a plurality of individual openings which are openable or closeable individually to provide varying flow rates of the lift gas. Each of the openings is controlled and is sensitive to downhole sensors.

Computer controlled gas lift system

A fluid circulation apparatus for interconnection with a wellbore tubing string for particular use in drilling deviated wellbores, such as with coiled tubing. The circulation apparatus has a tubular body member with a longitudinal bore extending therethrough and threads for interconnection with a tubing string. A fluid communication port extends through a sidewall of the tubular body member, and a valve is placed thereacross for selectively permitting and preventing fluid flow through the fluid communication port. The valve is biased in a normally closed position by way of a spring. Fluid control means, such as a hydraulic fluid source conveyed through the tubing string, operates the valve in response to electrical signals sent to the fluid control means from the earth's surface.

Fluid circulation apparatus

A shifting tool, operating on a single control line, selectively shifts a sliding sleeve in a well to either an open or closed position. The tool includes two sets of shifting dogs to manipulate a sliding sleeve in either direction. The tool includes locking dogs which insure proper location of the shifting tool as well as removing the load from the supporting coil tubing.

Hydraulically actuated well shifting tool

A one-piece flapper mount for a wireline retrievable hydraulic piston actuated wrap-around flapper safety valve. The flapper mount has opposing openings between the valve seat and the nose seal and the openings are sized for insertion of the flapper valve and nose seal with support ribs between the openings. The single piece construction allows setting and retrieving the safety valve in a single trip. The one-piece mount also has the advantage of ease of orientation of coacting parts.
