A fiber optic distribution cable includes a central inner jacket formed from one of a polyvinyl chloride or a low smoke zero halogen material, a plurality of optical fibers disposed within the inner jacket, and a plurality of first strength members disposed within the inner jacket. The fiber optic distribution cable further includes an outer jacket surrounding the central inner jacket, the outer jacket formed from the one of the polyvinyl chloride or the low smoke zero halogen material, and a plurality of second strength members disposed between the outer jacket and the central inner jacket. A fiber density of the cable is greater than 0.65 fibers per square millimeter.

A downhole cable includes a central core. The central core includes a metal tube having a plurality of optical fibers therein or a copper wire. The downhole cable further includes an extruded aluminum tube surrounding the central core.

A downhole strain sensing cable includes a core optical unit which includes a plurality of optical fibers. A fiber-reinforced polymer matrix layer surrounds and contacts the core optical unit. An extrusion layer surrounds and contacts the fiber-reinforced polymer matrix layer. An outer metal tube surrounds and contacts the extrusion layer.

Downhole strain sensing cables

A downhole logging cable includes a core conductor unit and a core optical unit. The core conductor unit may include a conductor and a jacket which surrounds and contacts the conductor. At least one metal tube may surround the core conductor unit and core optical unit, such that the core conductor unit and core optical unit are disposed in an interior of the at least one metal tube. A filler may be provided in the interior surrounding the core conductor unit and core optical unit.

A method for forming a fiber optic cable includes paying off a buffer tube such that the buffer tube extends generally along a longitudinal axis. The method further includes binding the buffer tube with a strength member. The strength member has at least one of a tension or a stiffness that is greater than a respective tension or stiffness of the buffer tube. The resulting fiber optic cable includes the strength member extending along a longitudinal axis and the buffer tube wrapping helically about the strength member. A fiber optic cable includes a strength member extending generally along a longitudinal axis. The fiber optic cable further includes a buffer tube wrapping helically about the strength member. The strength member has at least one of a tension or a stiffness that is greater than a respective tension or stiffness of the buffer tube.

Methods for forming fiber optic cables and fiber optic cables having helical buffer tubes

An optical connection terminal assembly for a fiber optic communications network includes an optical connection terminal. The terminal includes a base, the base including an exterior wall, and a cover connected to the base wherein an interior cavity is defined between the base and the cover. The terminal further includes an all-dielectric self-supporting ('ADSS') cable port defined in the cover, and a plurality of connector ports defined in the exterior wall of the base. The terminal assembly further includes an ADSS cable connector including a main body and a connector body, the ADSS cable connector positionable such that the connector body extends through the ADSS cable port into the interior cavity. The terminal assembly further includes an ADSS cable connected to the cable connector, wherein optical fibers of the ADSS cable extend through the ADSS cable connector and through the ADSS cable port into the interior cavity.

Optical connection terminals for fiber optic communications networks

A sensing cable is provided which includes exposed and/or unexposed optical fibers or wires disposed through the length of the sensing cable. The sensing cable includes a slotted core which is a one-piece integral member having a plurality of channels formed on a perimeter of the slotted core and which extend along a length of the slotted core. The sensing cable includes at least one exposed component which is disposed in a first channel of the plurality of channels and which extends along a length of the first channel. The sensing cable includes at least one unexposed component which is encased by a protective member, and the unexposed component and the protective member are disposed in a second channel of the plurality of channels. The unexposed component and the protective member extend along a length of the second channel.
