Catalyst composition which comprises a first zeolite having a BEA* framework type and a second zeolite having a MOR framework type and a mesopore surface area of greater than 30 m/g is disclosed. These catalyst compositions are used to remove catalyst poisons from untreated feed streams having one or more impurities which cause deactivation of the downstream catalysts employed in hydrocarbon conversion processes, such as those that produce mono-alkylated aromatic compounds.

Catalyst compositions and their use in aromatic alkylation processes

Processes are described for isomerizing one or more C-Calpha olefins to produce an isomerization mixture comprising one or more C-Cinternal olefins comprising contacting an olefinic feed comprising the one or more C-Calpha olefins with a catalyst under isomerization conditions, wherein the catalyst comprises a microporous crystalline aluminosilicate selected from the group consisting of ZSM-5, ZSM-23, ZSM-35, ZSM-11, ZSM-12, ZSM-48, ZSM-57, and mixtures or combinations thereof, and wherein the microporous crystalline aluminosilicate has a SiO/AlOmolar ratio of less than or equal to about 100. The resulting isomerization mixture typically exhibits a lower pour point and maintained biodegradability properties as compared to the olefinic feed, and is particularly useful in drilling fluid and paper sizing compositions.

Processes for isomerizing alpha olefins

Methods for removing impurities from a hydrocarbon stream using a guard bed material are disclosed. The guard bed material includes compositions which comprises a zeolite and a mesoporous support or binder. The zeolite has a Constraint Index of less than 3. The mesoporous support or binder comprises a mesoporous metal oxide having a particle diameter of greater than or equal to 20 &#x3bc;m at 50% of the cumulative pore size distribution (d), a pore volume of less than 1 cc/g, and an alumina content of greater than 75%, by weight. Also disclosed are processes for producing mono-alkylated aromatic compounds (e.g., ethylbenzene or cumene) using impure feed streams that are treated by the disclosed methods to remove impurities which act as catalyst poisons to downstream alkylation and/or transalkylation catalysts.

Methods for removing impurities from a hydrocarbon stream and their use in aromatic alkylation processes

The present disclosure relates to a process for producing a mono-alkylated aromatic compound using a treated catalyst made by a method of this invention is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of heating an untreated catalyst in the presence of a gaseous stream having a dew point temperature less than about 5&#xb0; C. to form a treated catalyst. The treatment is effective to improve the activity and selectivity of the catalyst.

Treatment of aromatic alkylation catalysts

Disclosed are selectivated transalkylation catalyst compositions and methods of making the same. The selectivated transalkylation catalyst compositions have a zeolite framework structure of MWW, FAU, BEA*, or MOR, or mixtures thereof, and are selectivated with a selectivating solution. The selectivating solution includes a dissolved ion of at least one element in Group 1, Group 2, Group 15, Group 16, or Group 17 of the Periodic Table. Also disclosed are processes of producing ethylbenzene and cumene using the selectivated transalkylation catalyst compositions.

Transalkylation processes and catalyst compositions used therein

In a process for producing paraxylene, a hydrocarbon feedstock comprising benzene and/or toluene is contacted with an alkylating reagent comprising methanol and/or dimethyl ether in an alkylation reaction zone under alkylation conditions in the presence of an alkylation catalyst to produce an alkylated product comprising xylenes. The alkylation catalyst comprises a molecular sieve having a Constraint Index &#x2264;5, and the alkylation conditions comprise a temperature less than 500&#xb0; C. At least part of the alkylated product is supplied to a paraxylene recovery unit to recover paraxylene and produce a paraxylene-depleted stream, which is then contacted with a xylene isomerization catalyst under conditions effective to isomerize xylenes in the paraxylene-depleted stream and produce an isomerized stream having a higher concentration of paraxylene than the paraxylene-depleted stream. At least part of the isomerized stream is then recycled to the paraxylene recovery unit to recover the paraxylene therein.

A catalyst composition includes a zeolite, a binder, and a Group 12 transition metal selected from the group consisting of Zn, Cd, or a combination thereof, the zeolite having a silicon to aluminum ratio of at least about 10, the catalyst composition comprising about 50 wt % or less of the binder based on a total weight of the catalyst composition, the catalyst composition having a micropore surface area of at least about 340 m/g, a molar ratio of Group 12 transition metal to aluminum of about 0.1 to about 1.3, and at least one of (a) a mesoporosity of greater than about 20 m/g; (b) a diffusivity for 2,2-dimethylbutane of greater than about 1&#xd7;10secwhen measured at a temperature of about 120&#xb0; C. and a 2,2-dimethylbutane pressure of about 60 torr (about 8 kPa).

Bound catalyst for selective conversion of oxygenates to aromatics

A catalyst composition comprising a zeolite, an alumina binder, and a Group 12 transition metal selected from Zn and/or Cd, the zeolite having a Si/Al ratio of at least about 10 and a micropore surface area of at least about 340 m/g, the catalyst composition comprising about 50 wt % or less of the binder, based on a total weight of the catalyst composition, and having a micropore surface area of at least about 290 m/g, a molar ratio of Group 12 transition metal to aluminum of about 0.1 to about 1.3, and at least one of: a mesoporosity of about 20 m/g to about 120 m/g; a diffusivity for 2,2-dimethylbutane of greater than about 1&#xd7;10secwhen measured at a temperature of about 120&#xb0; C. and a 2,2-dimethylbutane pressure of about 60 torr (8 kPa); and a combined micropore surface area and mesoporosity of at least about 380 m/g.

Alumina bound catalyst for selective conversion of oxygenates to aromatics

Catalyst compositions suitable for use in the exhaust gas recycle stream of an internal combustion engine are provided. Such catalyst compositions typically provide significant amounts of methane in addition to syngas. A reformer incorporating such a catalyst for use in an exhaust gas recycle portion of an internal combustion engine powertrain is described. A powertrain incorporating such a reformer, a method of increasing the octane rating of an exhaust gas recycle stream, and a method of operating an internal combustion engine using methane-assisted combustion are also described.

Catalyst for selective conversion of oxygenates to aromatics

Methods are provided for improving the yield of aromatics during conversion of oxygenate feeds. An oxygenate feed can contain a mixture of oxygenate compounds, including one or more compounds with a hydrogen index of less than 2, so that an effective hydrogen index of the mixture of oxygenates is between about 1.4 and 1.9. Methods are also provided for converting a mixture of oxygenates with an effective hydrogen index greater than about 1 with a pyrolysis oil co-feed. The difficulties in co-processing a pyrolysis oil can be reduced or minimized by staging the introduction of pyrolysis oil into a reaction system. This can allow varying mixtures of pyrolysis oil and methanol, or another oxygenate feed, to be introduced into a reaction system at various feed entry points.
