Systems and methods are provided for improving signal propagation using lasers. A laser device is used to clear the air between a first fixed station, such as a base station, and a second fixed station, such as a fixed wireless access device. In the wake of the laser, particles in the air interface are cleared along a path that can then be used to communicate one or more sets of wireless signals. In the wake of the laser, the wireless signals experience less absorption, reflection, and refraction, reducing path loss, and increasing the overall effectiveness of the wireless system—particularly at or near the cell edge or when a meteorological condition exists between the fixed stations.

The disclosed technology includes a technique for securing communications over a wireless telecommunications network. Quantum entangled particles are generated and optically communicated to a wireless endpoint device (e.g., smartphone) within Line-of-Sight (LOS) of the particle generator and optionally to a network access node (e.g., base station). A particle generator can be positioned on a communications tower, mountain, tall building, or other structure that enables greater LOS to multiple endpoint devices and network access nodes. The quantum states of entangled particles are used to generate counterpart cryptographic keys at the wireless endpoint device and network access node. As such, the counterpart keys can secure communications while underlying particles remain quantumly entangled. Moreover, any third-party observation of a quantumly entangled particle would cause collapse of the entanglement, which would render the cryptographic keys inoperable and serve to alert the network that an entangled particle was compromised.

A system uses pulsed lasers to enhance a signal propagation path in a telecommunications network. The system can estimate a signal propagation path, which varies based on a current location of a mobile device relative to a base station. The system can detect a propagation loss due to a condition of a propagation medium including the signal propagation path and determine whether the mobile device is in Line-of-Sight (LOS) of a laser emitter. In response to detection of the propagation loss, the laser emitter can emit a pulsed laser that can enhance signal propagation by mitigating the propagation loss on the signal propagation path. The pulsed laser has a propagation path overlapping the signal propagation path when the mobile device is in LOS of the laser emitter, which is mounted on the base station.

System and methods for smart cell selection and reselection are described. A mobile device may attempt to camp on a cell in a tracking area that has advertised a particular frequency band. If the mobile device is unable to recognize an information element identifying a different subset of the advertised frequency band than that supported by the mobile device, the mobile device will store a record of the tracking area and the advertised frequency band and compare future cell information broadcasts to the entry, avoiding attempts to operate within cells in the same tracking area advertising the same frequency. In this way the mobile device conserves resources by avoiding actions in incompatible cells and avoids storing information about many cells by only storing the tracking area information.

Solutions for physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) allocation, for example on a 5G network, include receiving, at a base station (BS) on a network, a session request message from a user equipment (UE) requesting a network session; based on at least receiving the session request message, determining a channel quality of a channel between the UE and the BS; based on at least the channel quality, selecting a first PUCCH format; and transmitting a message, from the BS, to the UE, instructing the UE to configure the PUCCH according to the first selected PUCCH format. Some examples further include: monitoring for a format change trigger; based on at least detecting the format change trigger, selecting a second PUCCH format different than the first PUCCH format; and transmitting a message, from the BS, to the UE, instructing the UE to configure the PUCCH according to the second selected PUCCH format.

A computer-implemented method, system, and computer-readable storage media for scheduling physical resource blocks (PRBs) comprises a communication radio access network (RAN) base station with a scheduler that assigns one or more PRBs to a communication channel of a user device. The PRBs can be prioritized according to a radio frequency (rf) interference level across the contiguous band of PRBs. The rf interference level of a communication channel of the user device can be monitored by the scheduler. The scheduler assigns one or more of the prioritized PRBs according to the rf interference level of the PRBs and according to the rf interference level of the communication channel of the user device.

Long term evolution scheduler to mitigate interference

A computer-implemented method, system, and computer-readable storage media for mitigating interference in a communication system is described. A user equipment operating near an edge of its base station coverage cell may transmit a strong uplink signal, which can interfere with a nearby base station. When a serving base station recognizes a high downlink signal from a nearby base station, an interference mitigation algorithm is enabled by the serving base station. The interference mitigation algorithm of the serving base station will control the uplink signal from the user equipment, so the user equipment does not interfere with the nearby base station.

Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for providing in-band backhaul from a wireless macrocell. In a particular embodiment, a method is provided for operating a wireless communication system allocated a plurality of frequency resource segments. The method provides receiving communications for wireless transfer from the wireless communication system using a first antenna system and a second antenna system, wherein a gain of the first antenna system is higher than a gain of the second antenna system. The method further provides determining a first subset of the communications that should be transferred over the first antenna system and transferring the first subset of the communications from the first antenna system using a first portion of the frequency resource segments. The method further provides transferring the remaining communications from the second antenna system using frequency resource segments other than the first portion of the frequency resource segments.

A switching device and a method and medium for using the switching device are provided. The switching device is associated with a remote radio unit (RRU) and an antenna of a base station and comprises a plurality of switching cables arranged in predetermined configurations including a single-layer beam forming configuration, a dual-layer beam forming configuration, and a MIMO configuration. In response to inputs received from UEs served by the base station, the switching device can implement the configuration best-suited to target the UEs.

In systems and methods of selecting a sub-band, a first sub-band and a second sub-band of an access node are selected, and is it determined that an intermodulation product of the first sub-band and the second sub-band overlaps with a carrier band of the access node. A transmission of data is scheduled on the second sub-band when a power of the intermodulation product of the first sub-band and the second sub-band does not meet a power threshold.

Systems and methods for allocating a frequency band in a wireless communication network are provided. An access node can transmit a first system information message. The first system information message can include a first service identifier associated with a first service and a second service identifier associated with a second service to indicate availability of the first service and the second service over a frequency band. The access node can receive instructions to discontinue transmitting the second service identifier within the first system information message. The access node can transmit a second system information message after receiving instructions to discontinue transmitting the second service identifier. The second system information message can include only the first identifier to indicate availability of only the first service over the frequency band.

Frequency band allocation in a wireless communication network

A method and system is disclosed for dynamic swapping of uplink and downlink base stations. A user equipment device (UE) may engage in a communication session with a downlink from a first base station (e.g., eNodeB) and an uplink to second, different base station. If a determination is made that more favorable operating conditions for transmitting session communications to the UE are available on a downlink air interface from the second base station than on the downlink air interface from the first base station, the uplink and downlink may be swapped, such that after swapping, the UE may have a downlink from second base station and an uplink to the first base station.
