A structured optical surface and an optical imaging system including the structured optical surface is described. The structured optical surface includes a plurality of structures formed by an intersection of at least first and second Fresnel patterns, such that when the structured optical surface is incorporated in an optical imaging system comprising a pixelated display surface with at least one pixel comprising at least two sub-pixels spaced apart by a gap, the structured optical surface images the at least two sub-pixels onto an image surface as at least two corresponding imaged sub-pixels spaced apart by a corresponding imaged gap, and the structured optical surface diffracts light so that the diffracted light at least partially fills the imaged gap without substantially overlapping any of the at least two imaged sub-pixels.

Gradient permittivity film

A polymeric film including a major surface having a plurality of intersecting extended structures is described. For at least a majority of the structures in the plurality of extended structures: each structure extends along a length of the structure, has an average width along a direction transverse to the length and generally along the first major surface, and has an average height along a direction generally perpendicular to the first major surface; and the average width of the structure may be in a range of 1 to 200 micrometers, the average height of the structure may be in a range of 1 to 200 micrometers, and the length may be at least 3 times the average width. The extended structures may be randomly or pseudorandomly oriented and may be formed by microreplicating a surface of a paper.

Polymeric film having structured surface

An optical adhesive including a viscoelastic or elastomeric adhesive layer and a cured polymer layer immediately adjacent the viscoelastic or elastomeric adhesive layer is described. The viscoelastic or elastomeric adhesive layer a refractive index less than 1.570 and the cured polymer layer has a refractive index of at least 1.570. An interface between the viscoelastic or elastomeric adhesive layer and the cured polymer layer is structured. The cured polymer layer has a storage modulus of at least 2000 MPa at 20&#xb0; C. and a glass transition temperature of no more than 65&#xb0; C.

Optical adhesive

A gradient permittivity film comprises (a) a first permittivity layer comprising a first continuous matrix of a first material having a first relative permittivity (&#x3b5;) and a second component having a second relative permittivity (&#x3b5;) dispersed in the first continuous matrix, the first permittivity layer having a first effective layer relative permittivity (&#x3b5;) and a thickness (T); and (b) a second permittivity layer having a second effective layer relative permittivity (&#x3b5;) and a thickness (T) disposed on the first permittivity layer T=0.8(t) to 1.2(t), where t=(I); T=0.8(t) to 1.2 (T), where T=(II). 

According to various embodiments of the present disclosure, a composition includes about 5 to about 40 parts by weight of a solute copolymer component. The solute component optionally has one Tor Tof at least 25&#xb0; C. The composition further includes about 60 to about 95 parts by weight of a solvent monomer. The solvent monomer component includes (meth)acrylate monomers and a multifunctional acrylate. The sum of the solute copolymer component and the solvent monomer component is 100 parts by weight. The composition further includes about 5 to about 100 parts of a plasticizer, relative to the 100 parts. The plasticizer component comprises at least one plasticizer comprising an acid group.

Self-wetting adhesive composition

Curable ink compositions include at least one aromatic (meth)acrylate, at least one multifunctional (meth)acrylate with heteroaromatic groups, fused aromatic groups, heteroalkylene groups, or a group containing both heteroalkylene and aromatic groups, and a photoinitiator. The curable ink composition is Inkjet printable, having a viscosity of 30 centipoise or less at a temperature of from room temperature to 35&#xb0; C., and is free from solvents. The ink composition, when printed and cured has a refractive index of 1.55 or greater, and is optically clear. The cured ink composition, when cured to a thickness of from 1-16 micrometers, has a surface roughness of less than or equal to 5 nanometers.

According to various embodiments of the present disclosure, a composition includes about 5 to about 40 parts by weight of a solute copolymer component. The solute component optionally has one Tor Tof at least 25&#xb0; C. The composition further includes about 60 to about 95 parts by weight of a solvent monomer. The solvent monomer component includes (meth)acrylate monomers and a multifunctional acrylate. The sum of the solute copolymer component and the solvent monomer component is 100 parts by weight. The composition further includes about 5 to about 100 parts of a plasticizer, relative to the 100 parts.

Headsets and head-mounted displays including first and second diffractive elements are described. In some cases, the first and second diffractive elements include first and second grating surfaces, and for at least one wavelength, the first and second grating surfaces have at least one different corresponding diffractive property. The head-mounted display may include two-dimensionally pixelated adjacent first and second display surfaces for displaying images, and first and second diffractive elements disposed adjacent the respective first and second display surfaces. In some cases, the first diffractive element is configured to diffract a first wavelength &#x3bb;, but not a different second wavelength &#x3bb;, into zero and first diffraction orders having intensities within 5% of each other, and the second diffractive element is configured to diffract the second wavelength &#x3bb;, but not the first wavelength &#x3bb;, into zero and first diffraction orders having intensities within 5% of each other.

Headset and head-mounted display

A multilayer optical film including a first layer having an index of refraction n1 at a wavelength &#x3bb; in a range from about 580 nm to about 650 nm, and a second layer having an index of refraction n2 at &#x3bb; is described. The first and second layers define an interface therebetween comprising a two-dimensional grating. The grating may have an average height H such that |n1&#x2212;n2|*H is in a range from 0.24 micrometers to 0.3 micrometers. Optical systems including the multilayer optical film are described. A subpixel in a display surface of the optical system may be diffracted into a zero diffraction order and a plurality of first diffraction orders where the intensities of the zero and first diffraction orders are with 10% of each other at &#x3bb;. The optical system may have a modulation transfer function greater than 0.4 at 10 line pairs per millimeter.

Optical film and optical system

Transfer tapes include a releasing substrate and an adhesive layer adjacent to the surface of the releasing substrate. The adhesive layer includes a cured copolymer prepared from a reaction mixture that includes at least one alkyl (meth)acrylate, at least one ethylenically unsaturated silane, and an initiator. The adhesive layer is a pressure sensitive adhesive at room temperature and is convertible into a ceramic-like layer by bake-out at a temperature of from 170-500&#xb0;.

Polymeric adhesive layers as ceramic precursors

Transfer tapes include a releasing substrate and an adhesive layer adjacent to the surface of the releasing substrate. The adhesive layer includes a at least one siloxane-based copolymer, and at least one siloxane tackifying resin. The adhesive layer is a pressure sensitive adhesive at room temperature and is convertible into a ceramic-like layer by bake-out at a temperature of from 100-500&#xb0;.

Structured film and articles thereof

An optical stack including a periodically varying optical film layer and a grating assembly for reducing moir&#xe9; is described. The grating assembly includes first and second layers where an interface between the first and second layers define a grating having a peak to valley height and an index contrast. The index contrast multiplied by the peak to valley height may be between 150 nm and 350 nm and the grating has a pitch in the range of 2 micrometers to 50 micrometers. Each of the first and second layers may be viscoelastic or elastomeric adhesive layers, crosslinked resin layers, or soluble resin layers.

A multilayer optical adhesive including a first viscoelastic or elastomeric adhesive layer and a second viscoelastic or elastomeric adhesive layer. A crosslinked or soluble resin layer may be disposed between the first viscoelastic or elastomeric adhesive layer and the second viscoelastic or elastomeric adhesive layer or the first viscoelastic or elastomeric adhesive layer may be immediately adjacent to the second viscoelastic or elastomeric adhesive layer. An interface between immediately adjacent layers is structured and there is a difference in refractive indices across the interface.
