Provided herein is a film and methods of producing the same. The film includes a substrate and a layer adjacent to the substrate, wherein a surface of the layer comprises spaced apart protrusions. The methods include providing a substrate, depositing a layer on at least a portion of the substrate, decomposing the layer to form at least a first phase of material and a second phase of material, and removing at least a portion of the second phase from the decomposed layer to form a structured layer.

A gas-loading and packaging system is provided for loading a solid material used in a hydrogen fuel cell with gas and packaging the solid material in a sealed container. The gas may comprise a hydrogen gas or other gas. The solid material may, for example, comprise palladium, a nickel alloy, platinum, or other metal. The solid material is loaded with gas by exposing the solid material to the gas under high pressure. When the solid material is exposed to gas under pressure, the gas absorbs into or adsorbs onto the solid material. The mass of the solid material is continuously monitored and used to determine when the solid material is loaded with the desired amount of gas. After the solid material is loaded with gas, high pressure is maintained while the solid material is packaged in a sealed container that is capable of retaining the high pressure gas.

The laminated structure includes at least one laminated layer wherein each layer includes a film, a bonding layer on a first major side of the film for releaseably attaching the film to either the windscreen or to an adjacent laminated film layer, a conductive material on a second major side of the film for dissipating electrostatic charging in the laminated structure that may occur due to accumulated precipitation static during aircraft fight, and a hard coat layer for protecting the relatively softer film against abrasion. As the outermost film layer becomes degraded below acceptable levels, that film may be easily removed, exposing a subsequent unblemished film layer.

A transparent laminated structure having multiple peel-away laminated film layers for protecting windscreens, particularly windscreens of rotary aircraft, from environmental conditions. The laminated structure includes at least one laminated layer wherein each layer includes a film, a bonding layer on a first major side of the film for releaseably attaching the film to either the windscreen or to an adjacent laminated film layer, optionally a conductive material on a second major side of the film for dissipating electrostatic charging in the laminated structure that may occur due to accumulated precipitation static during aircraft fight, and a hard coat layer for protecting the relatively softer film against abrasion. A keyed removal system is provided simplify determining the number of film layers remaining on the windscreen and to aid in the sequential removal of film layers which become degraded below acceptable levels, thereby exposing a subsequent unblemished film layer.

Transparent laminated structure having peel-away film layers with keyed features for use on windscreens

A protector for protecting aircraft, particularly helicopter rotor blades, from absorbing the sun's infrared rays and the accompanying heat build-up in order to keep adhesive material between spar connections from debonding and to avoid delamination from the rotor blade's composite skin. The rotor blade protector includes a cover configured to encircle the length of the rotor blade and a guide form for installing and removing the cover. The inner surface of the cover is coated, by vacuum deposition technology, with aluminum, titanium, or other metals or alloys. The coating thickness will be in the order of 9-30 billionths of a meter thick. A stripper rod is attached to the guide so that aircraft personnel can install and remove the protector from the helicopter rotor blade while standing on the ground. Optionally, a series of ribs can be provided along the cover to provide increased air insulation around the rotor blade. A further option includes providing a fan at the end terminal end of the cover to increase air circulation over the rotor blade.
